Inches from Place de Madeleine, Pinacotheque is a sizeable 5,000m2 art venue and is Paris' top private museum. A fitting name for its open-minded booking policy, pinacothêkê is Greek for 'box of pictures' and exhibits range from archaeological discoveries to contemporary art and design. Since its doors opened in 2007 it has hosted exhibitions seldom seen in France. Retrospectives from artists like Roy Lichtenstein, Edvard Munch and Jackson Pollock have all graced its walls, along with Mayan masks and China's Xi'an Dynasty warrior statues. It organises three to four exhibitions per year.
