It was originally two squares: Carlo Alberto Square, semicircular, neoclassical style, built from 1820 to 1830 along the edge of the Old City of Nice; and the Plaza de Marsena itself, located on the other side of the Palon River, in an 18th century style, built from 1840 to 1852.
