The island is the provincial capital of Galapagos Province, and there is an airport on the island, but the population is far smaller than Santa Cruz Island. 85% of the island is a national park. The islanders are concentrated near the southern pier Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, the town is not large, there are several streets, and it is built along the coast. The sea lions of San Cristobal are tens of times the population. There is a turtle conservation center on the island. There are warship birds, turtles, blue-footed ostriches and red-footed ostriches. PUNTA PITT in the northeast of the island is a habitat for Galapagos eagles, sea otters and other birds, and a nesting ground for blue-footed ostriches, red-footed ostriches and NASCAR ostriches. The northeast is a great place for snorkeling.
