Despite knowing the Indian restaurant penchant for relatively expensive curries and having to pay extra for essential accompaniments such as rice or bread, we decided to give this one a try. With curries ranging from $17-$20 and rices from $5-$20, we hoped the flavours would reflect the overall cost. Unfortunately, the three curries we ordered, while OK, were not as flavoursome as those we've had in a typical shopping centre food court. There also wasn't much difference between the flavour of the lemon rice and the plain basmati dish. Quantities were adequate (although there were just enough prawns in the prawn curry to go round) and we had just enough room for dessert. The sweetness of the milk and date cake was an effective antidote to the savouriness of the main meal but the tiny serve did not justify the $8.50 tag. The so-called 'corkage' charge of $3 per person to simply unscrew a bottle of wine and pour it into a glass seemed extortionate and further reduced the value of the meal. Overall, an average dining experience that cost more than it should have.

    5/5Outstanding

There are five of us from Gippsland who meet for dinner before the MSO Monash Series concerts. This was our first visit to Shaven's and we will definitely be returning. The dining room was beautifully set out and quiet. The food was wonderful. The service was impeccable and the price was reasonable. And it's less than 10 minutes from Monash.

    4/5Excellent

This restaurant proved a pleasant surprise. We were going to the movies in the pinewood shopping centre and wanted a nice lunch. The food was tasty and we particularly enjoyed the Bombay mushrooms as an entree. The entrees are priced from $5 to 15 and the mains from 12 to 19.50. We thought it was good value for what we had

    4/5Excellent

The restaurant has new owners who are out to please . I have now had the lunch special which consists of 3 courses. The entre is generous and with the chicken tandoori is just beautiful and tender. The lamb korma melts in your mouth but to me was a little bland. The serving a nan bread was generous and tasty . They have a good wine list with plenty of selections by the glass. This is a very well presented restaurant with comfortable sitting and spacious settings .
