The Teochew Chinese Cemetery is part of an old suburb in Bangkok that has long been noted for its harmonious integration of Christian, Buddhist and Muslim communities. The cemetery itself is notable for its bizarre marriage of life and death. With perfect nonchalance local Thais spend their weekends in the cemetery amid the hundreds of old headstones, where they drink beer at the public tables, exercise at the cemetery gym, picnic on the lawns or enjoy an ice-cream while strolling down the shaded roads.
