The Tower of London (Tower of London), a Normandy-style castle building by the Thames in London, England, is also the hottest attraction in London. When James I (1566-1625), it was once the palace of the British king. For centuries, the Tower of London served as a fortress, armoury, treasury, mint, palace, observatory, sanctuary and prison, holding particularly upper-class prisoners, the last time it was used as a prison was during World War II. The official name of the Tower of London is "Her Majesty's Palace and Castle - Tower of London". In 1988 it was listed on the World Heritage List. Now it serves as a showcase for crowns, robes, weapons and armor. The most famous is the Royal Treasures Hall in the tower, which mainly displays the monarch's jewel-encrusted crown since the 17th century, the royal ball, the sceptre and other national treasures, and the weapons hall displays various weapons, armor and robes used by the royals in previous generations.
