The Xianberlin Temple was the first Gelu temple founded in the Pulanzong, also known as the "Shage Bahrain Temple", built in the late 17th century, when Gandan Caiwang commander Tibetan army defeated the Radak army that occupied Ali. After the war, Gandan Caiwang claimed to have killed too many people, and after ending his career, he established the monastery and was repentant. The Tibetan language of "Shagba" means "atonement".
