四次前往榆林窟均是从瓜州出发，穿过一片隔壁，渐渐地有绿洲和水流潺潺而现，过破城子和锁阳城镇，再经蘑菇台，榆林窟也就不远了。榆林窟便修建在榆林河东西两岸的峭壁之上，因河得名，又称万佛峡。莫高窟俗称千佛洞，与榆林窟并称姊妹窟，所言不虚。榆林窟的开凿年代已无可考，有些洞窟的形制确实很老，有可能上推到北魏。然后现存造像、壁画已无北朝身影，大多为唐以后作品，并历经五代、宋、西夏、清等不同时代重修、重绘。现存洞窟43窟，彩绘佛、道图10856铺，彩塑佛、道造像244身。洞窟当中唐3窟、五代8窟、宋13窟、西夏、元各4窟、清9窟。余与好友们四次前往榆林窟，在3窟中走进曼陀罗的世界，仰望文殊普贤变，在4窟中看神秘的密教壁画。看着2窟里冷峻幽暗的水月观音激动不已，在25窟观无量寿经变前发呆，泪流满面，像是一起在荒漠的绿洲中一饮甘冽的泉水。榆林窟就像是泉水一样，沁人心脾，虽然早已远离，却仍口齿留香。余四次前往所看窟共计12窟：2、3、4、5、11、12、13、14、16、17、25、26
