Most of the buildings around the square were built in the early 20th century. They are Roman, Gothic, Renaissance and eclecticism. They have strong European flavor. Jade paved central platform is elegant and eye-catching; the buildings around the square were mostly built during the period of Japan and Russia, and most of these buildings are now used by financial institutions, so they are also the financial center of Dalian. Opposite the square is the Dalian Hotel, three-star. It was built in 1909 under Japanese rule. It was the highest hotel in Dalian at that time. It was called Dahe Hotel.
