Hotel location is very good, in the center of Wellington, the parking lot is on the upper floor, to go up a steep slope, parking fee 15 NZ / day. The interior decoration is a bit antique and has a sense of history. The downside is that I arrived at the hotel on Christmas Eve, and the front desk was closed (should be at 7 pm), saying that I sent an email to me, but I didn't find it in fact. Still the cleaning guy, contacted me, opened the key box, and got the key.

I returned in January as a guest to the apartment-hotel after staying twice before. I had a choice of hotels to book from, but I came back here specifically based on the pool & spa facilities, plus excellent restaurants. That was a key criteria in making my selection. And to give myself a little bit of luxury such as I had experienced here in the past. Everything started brilliantly when I arrived straight from the airport to drop off my bags at 10am. I received a very friendly greeting and the young man told me that my room was ready & I didn’t have to wait until checkin time. Fantastic! But it kind of went down hill rapidly after that. I went to lift the plug in the sink and it was absolutely filthy with gunk & hair (see photo). When I went to have a cup of tea, there was no milk in my room (they did rectify this quickly). Then after an unusually hot day in Wellington, I got into my swimming togs and arrived at the pool to a closed sign. And got nothing but misinformation from staff on that issue. So I emailed a complaint to give them a chance to put things right. Had a great response from the front office supervisor Ellie who offered me a voucher to use on food and drink. I was really pleased with how she handled that and I told her that I would use the voucher at Hot Sauce the next evening. She was then rather embarrassed to tell me BOTH hotel restaurants (Hot Sauce and Hippopotamus) were currently closed for refurbishment. Why you would close both F&B services at once over the busy summer holiday period? To be honest it looks like nothing happening in Hot Sauce, so I wonder if it is something else e.g that they can’t get enough staff? The restaurant closures were not mentioned at checkin, and had been included as features in my welcome email the day before my arrival, (along with the pool facilities). When I did go to the bar to cash in my complimentary voucher today, they didn’t have the champagne that I wanted and the bar was SO packed and noisy that I moved to a local bar for cocktails and food instead. I wasn’t even offered nuts for the table when other groups were. Solo travellers are often overlooked for service. I came back later in the evening and ordered a wine & asked for some fries to be sent up to my room. The fries took ages to arrive and the staff member said the order got lost on the way to the kitchen. The lack of expectation management for guests around the facilities - particularly the pool closure, and the unhelpful manner of one person at the concierge desk on Friday mean this will be the last time I stay here. They did get the pool open on Saturday afternoon, but it was half a job - with the spa remaining out of order. Despite Ellie’s best efforts, a comfortable in-room experience and the friendly check-in guy, they just got too much wrong this time for me to risk it again.

Always thoroughly enjoy my stay here. Very convenient, a step away from central Courtenay Place. Parking is convenient and easily accessed. Rooms are fully equipped with kitchenette that has its own dishwasher/cooktop/fridge etc. super comfy bed and nice little balcony. Really nice open plan bathroom/wet room and lighting is great for dolling up! It’s the PERFECT spot for a night out on the town. Always will be booking here for when I am needing to spend my night in Central Wellington for events. Christian H at the counter is a very nice and welcoming work colleague.

Couldn't ask for a better location. An elevator from the lobby to Lampton Quay made it so easy for shopping. Staff shortages due to covid were still evident but any staff we did have contact with were friendly and helpful. The staff member servicing the rooms asked if we wanted our rooms serviced but we said no as there is no need when it's only a two night stay. The cafe and bar had restricted hours again due to staff shortages. However the buffet breakfast was very good.

My partner and I stayed at Hotel Waterloo & Backpackers for a weekend in Wellington. We had a private room with ensuite bathroom. The room was tidy and clean, located at the end of the hallway (quiet - Bonus point!). The staff was friendly as well. The Hotel is in a perfect location: close to the Beehive and in walking distance to the CBD, Te Papa, Cable Car etc. Can recommend!

A divine experience glamping in a vineyard! ❤️ Had the good fortune of stumbling across Martinborough on my way to Wellington. It's a quaint place with a variety of well appointed cabins with gas fireplaces and spa baths just outside the cute village of cafes, shops and wineries. Their team is kind and hardworking. 💯 Bring your own food since you'll have a kitchenette and food can be limited during the day since most places don't open until evening or the weekends for tourists. Also, recommend driving since it's both expensive and challenging to get around outside of the limited free shuttle. Bikes are available to rent for $40NZD 🤑🤑

We travelled for a family event and needed a twin share room with car parking availability in a central location. Loved the historical building with modern, comfortable decor. Cheerful decoration atmosphere - amazing staff - would certainly both recommend and stay again :-)

It's an older hotel and the halls smell a little funky but that quickly fades. The rooms show some signs of wear but are clean and have all the things you need. The bed was clean and comfy. The dining room was cozy and inviting. There seemed to be a little confusion in the kitchen, I know places are short staffed, but the food that arrived I really enjoyed. It is close to lots of things, I was on foot for this trip. The value was good for the price and I would stay here again.

Ibis Wellington

Have stayed at this Ibis in central Wellington twice now, and it never disappoints = you know just what you'll get; clean and functional spaces, rooms, bathrooms etc. Breakfast was very good also, and plentiful. Pleasant staff throughout also; an all-round positive experience as part of work travels. Although Ibis is predominantly a budget hotel brand elsewhere in the world, such as Europe - this hotel is priced for location, and the local market; hence mid-range.
