Prado Museum

The building that today houses the Museo Nacional del Prado was designed by architect Juan de Villanueva in 1785. It was constructed to house the Natural History Cabinet, by orders of King Charles III. However, the building's final purpose - as the new Royal Museum of Paintings and Sculptures - was the decision of the monarch's grandson, King Ferdinand VII, encouraged by his wife Queen Maria Isabel de Braganza. The Royal Museum, soon quickly renamed the National Museum of Paintings and Sculptures and subsequently the Museo Nacional del Prado, opened to the public for the first time in November 1819. Since it was founded in 1819 and over its multi-century history, the Museo Nacional del Prado has performed the important task of conserving, exhibiting and enriching a set of collections and works of art which, due to their close ties with Spanish history, are recognized as one of the most valuable compendiums of artistic expression known to humanity. Loans to temporary exhibitions are the Museum's most direct means of communication with society. They offer the opportunity of reinterpreting the collections while linking them to currentl issues. At the same time, they also provide an especially attractive scope for museography allowing for experimentation on new styles and technologies. They contribute to projecingt a new identity of the Museum by encouraging innovation, research and the public interest in its collections. With this intention in mind, the Museo Nacional del Prado offers its visitors a wide exhibition program while contributing to the promotion of its collections through the loan of works from its collection to exhibition projects organised by other cultural institutions, both national and international.Spain · Madrid

The Cathedral of Barcelona is located in the Gothic Quarter of the old town, officially named the "Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia"—it is not Gaudí's Sagrada Família, but the true cathedral of Barcelona. The main structure was built between the late 13th and 15th centuries in the Catalan Gothic style, featuring a broad nave and a solid presence. The current facade and central tower, which form the frontage, were added in the early 20th century based on 15th-century original designs in the Neo-Gothic style, with a row of gargoyles along the cornice displaying varied poses, worth a closer look. The chapels in the cathedral cloister enshrine the patron saints of various craft guilds. The choir stalls, religious frescoes, sculptures, and exquisite gold and silver artifacts in the Santa Eulalia chapel are dazzlingly splendid.Spain · Barcelona

Casa Vicens

Casa Vicens is Gaudí's first architectural work, widely recognized by the art world as the origin of all his whimsical ideas. Located in Barcelona's vibrant Gràcia district, this building is a private residence blending Neo-Mudéjar, exotic Oriental, and Neoclassical styles. Construction began in 1883, incorporating diverse materials such as iron, glazed tiles, colored papier-mâché, mosaic tiles, and rough red bricks. With his unique craftsmanship, Gaudí harmonized these elements, showcasing the intrinsic value of materials in architecture. As a devoted naturalist, Gaudí drew decorative inspiration from local flora like palm leaves, marigolds, ivy, and daisies. He meticulously integrated these motifs into the house—wall paintings, roof ornaments, and balcony patterns all echo nature's forms, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. Every corner exudes a sense of natural balance. In his 1878 book *La Casa Pairal*, Gaudí elaborated on his philosophy of private residences and the concept of "home." These ideas found tangible expression in Casa Vicens, marking his first attempt to merge theory with practice and laying the foundation for his signature style. The house brilliantly demonstrates the beauty and power of design. Later masterpieces like Park Güell, Casa Batlló, Casa Milà, and the Sagrada Família further cemented the bond between Barcelona and Gaudí's name. As one of the early 20th century's foremost architects, the city fueled his genius, while his creations became its aesthetic legacy. Casa Vicens was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. Until 2014, it remained a private residence before undergoing extensive restoration and opening as a museum in November 2017. After two years of refinements, this architectural gem unveiled its splendor to the public after a century of seclusion.Spain · Barcelona

Actually, I missed the meeting point because I didn't pay attention to the ticket instructions; the meeting point wasn't at the palace entrance. I had to buy a separate ticket to get in, but it was definitely worth it. The palace is incredibly luxurious and magnificent, with stunning interiors. It was a truly worthwhile trip.

The good thing about the Prado is that photography isn't allowed, so I can't upload photos of the exhibition halls, but I can upload a picture of the entrance. The classic Las Meninas is still very impressive, and there were many people looking at it. There are also many famous works by Goya, Velázquez, Bosch, and many others. Last time, I visited three floors and countless halls, but I couldn't see everything. It was a visual feast, and I can only marvel at how talented the older generation of European painters were! The paintings are so beautiful!

A hidden gem in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. This museum offers an exceptional exhibition from beginning to end and is truly a must-see. While Picasso's masterpieces are the main attraction, the temporary and featured exhibitions are equally impressive. The museum is beautifully curated, and the admission fee is very reasonable, making it one of the best cultural experiences I have ever had.

It's Gaudí's debut work and the starting point of modernist architecture in Barcelona. Compared to the romance of Casa Batlló, this place is full of the fusion of Islamic and Japanese styles. The walls covered in marigold tiles, the exquisite wrought-iron birdcage windows, and the dreamy smoking room create a strong visual impact. Moreover, it's relatively less crowded, making for a very comfortable experience.
