We start in the pre-dawn darkness with our headlamps and backpacks. The city of Cape Town is still asleep with a million lights visible as you hike up and around the Lion's Head. We pass Camps Bay & Clifton, and hear rather than see the Atlantic Ocean crashing into the shore far below. After about an hour and a half of hiking and scrambling, we arrive on top as the sunrise paints the sky orange, pink and red. We enjoy the sunrise and some time on top, joining the others who braved the early start for a stunning reward.
After some Rooibos tea, snacks, and many photos, we take a slow walk down, with memories to last a lifetime. The hike takes about 3 - 3 1/2 hours.
Moderate fitness is required, but you need to be more willing and able then have any athletic ability. Pickup and drop-offs can be arranged.
