Reviews: 1-day tour to BEIJING W TOWN + Great Wall At Simatai [Optional private tour, enjoy lantern displays, watch musical fountains]

TLDR: Great day trip experience to this nice resort and attraction beside a section of the Great Wall. Dec is their low shoulder period, so not all shops and shows are open. Best to come in spring or autumn where the lake is still accessible. It was frozen when I was there. Description as is, simple to redeem. Driver was nice, trip took 2 hours to reach, spent the whole day walking thru the town then going up the Great Wall. You could also stay for 2 days 1 night watch the shows, walk the town in the evening and see the Great Wall lighted up at night. Note: lots of walking required
Reviews: Gubei Water Town Day Trip - & Optional Night Tour of Simatai Great Wall & Optional Lunch
Guest User2025-11-17
A wonderful excursion, we absolutely loved it! Everything was exactly as described. We purchased the boats and daytime cable car separately for 80 and 160 yuan per person, respectively. I highly recommend it. The tour price also included lunch in a hot pot, which was also perfect. We visited Gubei on November 16th, and we were lucky with the weather (sunny all day). The temperature was 3-4 degrees Celsius during the day and 0 - -2 degrees Celsius after sunset. Wrap up as warm as possible, as VKS is not only cold but also very windy. Our guide was Roberta, a wonderful woman who explained everything in detail, provided backup and assistance if needed. You can buy a super warm fleece jacket from the bus driver for 50 yuan. If you decide to take a taxi back to Beijing, it will cost around 400-500 yuan.

Thank you to our tour guide, Cheche, for making our day so enjoyable. Before we set off, the guide explained the itinerary very clearly, gave us a history lesson about the Simatai Great Wall on the bus, and patiently made sure everyone knew how to explore the area after we got off. The scenic area is truly beautiful, with chubby and adorable cats everywhere. The off-season meant fewer crowds, which made it easier to take photos. Personally, I think the Simatai Great Wall is a must-see; it's truly breathtaking.

Excellent tour! The guide was wonderful. She was engaging and fun to talk about, and she was very helpful. She speaks three languages (Chinese, Russian, and English). The tour itself is excellent; you can climb the Great Wall of China in a day; it's a very beautiful section. And Gubei itself evokes nothing but delight and joy, making me want to return.

Christina was a wonderful guide that let us tour at our own pace, but was always available to help when needed. We were able to see the Wall in both the day and at night so it was a very unique experience! The town was also well decorated for the coming Lunar New Years celebration so it was very fun to walk through the town.
Reviews: Beijing:Jinshanling Great Wall with Night Tour to Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall
Guest User2025-11-29
On our journey to the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall, we made a delightful stop for a tea ceremony. It was well worth it! Our first stop at the wall was in a quieter area, allowing us to appreciate its vastness. Since we chose the late tour, we were treated to a mesmerizing sunset over the landscape. Our guide, Andy, shared fascinating details about the history of the wall, enhancing our experience. Next, we enjoyed dinner at a charming farmhouse, where we savored delicious local cuisine. Our final stop was Gubei Water Town, where we took a cable car up to the lit Wall section. The view at night was simply stunning, and we concluded our evening with a stroll through the beautifully lit streets of Gubei Water Town before returning to the car. Overall, it was a magical day filled with cultural richness and breathtaking sights!
