Located south of Chiang Mai's Old City, the Kechu Elephant Care center continues to care for elephants with meticulous attention and patience while operating eco-friendly tourism. Managed by the local Karen hill tribe, who have a long tradition of elephant keeping, they treat these gentle giants as family members.
This half-day itinerary allows you to learn about elephant ecology, care for elephants up close, and take a walk and play in the water with them.
Kerchor Elephant Half Day Tour - Elephant Care
The transfer service operates in two time slots:
07:00 - 07:30 AM to 12:30 - 1:00 PM
1:00 PM–1:30 PM ~ 6:00 PM–6:30 PM
Half-day tour with pickup from your hotel lobby between 07:00 - 07:30 AM, approximately a 1.5-hour drive to the campsite.
- Arrive at the elephant camp at 09:00 and change into traditional Karen ethnic clothing.
- 09:30 - 10:00 Meet the elephants, learn how to approach them, and understand and prepare to make elephant vitamins together.
- 10:00 - 11:30 Feed the elephants, walk with elephants, learn about their daily life and bathing routines.
- 11:30 Enjoy a simple Thai meal.
- The itinerary concludes at 12:30. After changing clothes, prepare to return to the hotel. The estimated return time to the departure hotel is around 13:30 to 14:00.
Half-day afternoon: The guide will pick you up in your hotel lobby between 13:00-13:30, with approximately a one-and-a-half-hour drive to the camp.
- Arrive at the elephant camp at 14:00 and change into traditional Karen ethnic clothing.
- 14:30 Meet the elephants, learn how to approach them, and understand and prepare to make elephant vitamins together.
- 15:00 - 17:00 Feed the elephants, walk with elephants, learn about their daily life and bathing routines.
- The itinerary concludes at 17:30. After changing clothes, prepare to return to the hotel. The estimated return time to the departure hotel is around 18:00 to 18:30.

Recommended items to bring:
Prepare sun protection and mosquito repellent measures
Wear light clothing and bring a change of clothes if you plan to get in the water and play with the elephants.
Please bring your own rain gear during the rainy season (May to October).
