Explore, discover and really get-to-know the Old Town of Split with all the delightful little secrets and anecdotes of this gorgeous city. The tour focuses both on the Diocletian's palace and the Jewish heritage.
The Jewish Community of Split is one of the oldest in Europe. The archaeological findings from the nearby Roman city of Salona prove that the Jews lived there together with the Romans, probably sometime between the 2nd and 3rd century AD. Centuries later, the citizens of Salona escaped the attacks of the Barbarians and inhabited the Diocletian's Palace. The Jews shared the destiny of other citizens of Salona and started their life in Split
We kick-off in style with the magnificent Diocletian's Palace in the heart of the Old Town and travel back to the ancient Roman Empire. Discover menorahs carvings in the basements of the palace that testify to the Jewish people being present in Split since the early centuries.
