The Jewish Community of Split is one of the oldest in Europe. The archaeological findings from the nearby Roman city of Salona prove that the Jews lived there together with the Romans, probably sometime between the 2nd and 3rd century AD. Centuries later, the citizens of Salona escaped the attacks of the Barbarians and inhabited the Diocletian's Palace. The Jews shared the destiny of other citizens of Salona and started their life in Split
We kick-off in style with the magnificent Diocletian's Palace in the heart of the Old Town and travel back to the ancient Roman Empire. Discover menorahs carvings in the basements of the palace that testify to the Jewish people being present in Split since the early centuries.

Prokurative or as they are officially called, Republic Square resemble the Venice St. Marks Square. They are located west of the Riva and they were named after the arches found on the neo-Renaissance buildings surrounding the square on three sides. Most people to this day know it by that name. The square is only open on the south side, providing a beautiful view of the harbour and the Riva (waterfront).
