Shiwan Great Mountain National Forest Park

Shiwandashan National Forest Park is located in the southern part of Shangsi County. It has a quiet environment and a pristine forest landscape. It is surrounded by continuous mountains, flowing springs and green forests, and the scenery is very charming. There are two main routes when visiting the Attraction. One is leading to the "Sleeping Buddha of Nanshan" (named so because when you look at Nanshan from here, the outline of Nanshan looks like a giant Buddha sleeping on its back), and the other is leading to the "Viewing the Sea at Shishan" (named so because the peak is the top of Shishan Mountain, where you can have a panoramic view of the sea view of Beibu Gulf). Most tourists will choose the second route. However, the distance from the gate of the Attraction to the top of the mountain is quite far. It takes about 3.5 hours to reach the top, and currently it is only accessible on foot. Tourists who want to reach the top are advised to set off early. If it is already late, it is recommended to go down the mountain immediately even if you have not reached the top of the mountain. If you choose the route to "Lion Mountain Sea Viewing", even if you don't reach the top of the mountain, the many scenic spots along the way will make you feel that the trip is worthwhile. The many naturally formed bathing pools along the way are good places to play in the water, and scenic spots such as the Dragon Robe Tree, the Love Net, and the Sancha River are also very charming.Shangsi · 31.9 km from downtown

The "Birds Paradise" is a large-scale eco-tourism resort that takes advantage of the superior natural ecological environment of the Shiwanda Mountain to establish a central theme of viewing various rare birds (wild animals under the second category of national protection), with leisure and vacation, popular science education, fitness training, and green environmental protection as the main contents, and integrates "eating, living, playing, and having fun". It is participatory, interesting, and entertaining. The bird-watching theme tourism ecological Attraction is divided into 1, 2, and 3 areas. The number of various rare birds in the park will reach more than 5,000 and more than 150 species. The Birds Paradise will become the largest tourist ecological scenic Attraction with bird culture as the theme in China and even in Asia. At present, the park uses the superior natural ecological environment of the Shiwanda Mountain to publicize and promote bird culture, including the domestication, breeding, display, rescue, popular science education, etc. of rare birds. The park has preliminarily completed the construction of 60 species and about 800 birds. The purpose is to cultivate people's environmental awareness of identifying, loving and protecting birds, make the Shiwanda Mountains with their beautiful mountains, lush forests and clear waters more spiritual and vibrant, create a beautiful environment where "man and nature" live in close harmony, and make the Bird Paradise Tourist Scenic Area a veritable "bird paradise and human paradise."Shangsi · 28 km from downtown

White-Headed Langur Ecological Tourism Area

White-Headed Langur Ecological Tourism Area

4.8/5
1k reviews
The Guangxi White-Headed Langur Ecological Tourism Area consists of four discontinuous rocky mountain regions: the Bapen, Daling, Tuozhu, and Banli sections. Its primary conservation focus is the white-headed langur, a nationally protected animal named for its snow-white crown and leaf-based diet. Discovered and named by Chinese scholars, this primate has thrived on Earth for over 3 million years. Today, it is found only within Chongzuo's approximately 200 km² rocky terrain, with a global population of just over 1,000 individuals. It is one of the world's 25 most endangered and critically protected primates, often compared to the giant panda in scientific value, earning Chongzuo the title "Hometown of China's White-Headed Langurs." After entering the park, visitors can reach the cliffside habitats of the langurs via a 10-min shuttle ride or a few hundred meters' walk. The langurs follow a predictable routine: foraging at dawn, resting in shaded cliffs at noon, and returning to their nests before dusk along relatively fixed routes. Patient observers are often rewarded with sightings. Infants under six months old, golden-furred and clinging to their black-coated mothers, are a highlight for wildlife photographers. The area also shelters other protected species like Francois' langurs and macaques, as well as rare plants such as cycads and golden camellias. Leveraging this rocky forest ecosystem, the park conducts year-round activities like science education, ecological experiences, research expeditions, field training, and photography. Observe quietly—never feed or chase the langurs. Bring binoculars or telephoto lenses for better cliffside details, and visit at dawn or dusk (avoiding noon) for higher chances of active sightings.Chongzuo · 49.6 km from Shangsi

Detian Transnational Waterfall Scenic Spot

Detian Transnational Waterfall Scenic Spot

9.1
4.7/5
27.3k reviews
The Detian Transnational Waterfall Scenic Spot is located on the upper reaches of the Guichun River along the China-Vietnam border in Guangxi. Here, the boundary river meets a cliff, cascading down in three tiers with a width of over 200 m and a drop of more than 70 m, facing Vietnam's Ban Gioc Waterfall across the cliff. During the rainy season, the two waterfalls nearly merge into one, and their roar can be heard across the valley. This site also served as a filming location for the TV series The Journey of Flower. The highlights of the visit mostly revolve around this border river: after passing through the Detian memorial archway, known as the "transnational gate," you can take a bamboo raft from the shore to the foot of the waterfall, looking up as the curtain of water crashes down from the cliff top, with mist spraying onto your face—effectively "traveling abroad" on the border river. On the river, you'll often encounter Vietnamese locals paddling small bamboo rafts to sell coffee, dried fruit, and other goods, and the haggling adds a fun cross-border market vibe. After disembarking, follow the waterfall-viewing boardwalk and multi-level observation decks to admire the waterfall's full panorama from different heights. Boundary markers No. 53 (erected during the Qing Dynasty and inscribed with "Guangxi, China") and No. 836 are popular photo spots. Along the boardwalk, you'll also find Detian Temple, built by villagers in the 1980s to commemorate the Zhuang historical figure Nong Zhigao—worth a quick visit. The waterfall view varies significantly with water volume: during the summer peak season, the water is torrential and awe-inspiring, while it appears more delicate in the dry season; the bamboo raft dock has long queues in peak season, so it's advisable to arrive early for a close-up view of the waterfall; the rafts get quite misty, so remember to waterproof your phone and camera.China · Daxin

The Ten Thousand Mountains are truly delightful. Waterfalls cascade down the mountainside, forming numerous pools. Right at the entrance to the scenic area is a large medicinal pool, cool and refreshing – a truly soothing place to soak in on a hot summer day. Camping is available nearby; RVs or tents are both fine, costing only 30 yuan per night.

-- READ THIS FOR FULL TRAVEL DETAILS --We did this trip without much information available online, so we might as well now share what we learned.GETTING THERE: The easiest starting point is Shangsi (上思) Town with many nice hotels to stay overnight. From there you can either get a driver to come here or take a local bus. We also asked around about renting an E-Scooter, but were recommended against that, because it is quite far. The bus leaves from 明江市场(西门) bus station (not the main bus station!), but at the other side of the street (in front of a pharmacy). It leaves at random timings (about every 20-45 minutes probably), so just go there early and wait for the next one. It's 10 Yuan per person, takes about one hour and will end right at the entrance of the park.GETTING BACK: The last bus will leave from the same spot at 4PM. Don't miss it :)FACILITIES: There are plenty of restaurants, small shops and a toilet around the ticket office (one ticket is 35 Yuan). Make sure to stack up in everything you might need: We did not see other toilets/ shops/ restaurants within the park, except for some herbal speciality souvenirs.THE SIGHTS: We were pleasengly surprised by the beautiful scenery and the trekking trails. We went on a Sunday during Chinese summer holidays and still there were very few other people. The nature is beautiful and you can walking next to a nice river stream.HIKING: We started going up a mountain peak (black path on the right side of the map). The path was super nice and lead straight through the jungle/ bamboo forest. Be aware though, that there are A LOT of steps to climb! Also, there is a sign at the path staring that the mountain round path takes 4 hours, so plan enough time.SWIMMING/ PLAYING IN THE WATER: A blessing after hiking! The water was just perfect: Nice and refreshing & super clean. Once you pass the second bridge there is even a natural swimming pool (slightly deeper water) with an improvised changing room for 1 Yuan.

Fangchenggang itself has been known as the “paradise of birds” and is an important area for migratory birds to migrate and inhabit. Fangchenggang is located in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with a unique natural environment and rich biodiversity, especially Shanxinsha Island, which is a paradise for migratory birds. So, this park is an ideal representation of avian species of designated area and perfect entertainment option for a weekend.

It's definitely worth a visit. The scenery is beautiful, and the air is rich in negative ions. I especially loved the part where we walked through the bamboo forest. The longest route takes 7-8 hours, but the water was absolutely crystal clear and stunning.

Stepping into the white-headed langur base, these spirits of the rocky mountains leap gracefully between the cliffs, their golden cubs nestled in their mothers' arms—a heartwarming scene. The guide explained that only about a thousand remain globally, found only in the karst mountains of Chongzuo. Watching them carefree as they nibble on leaves, I felt both gratified and burdened. Protecting them is protecting the unique lifeblood of this land. May more people pay attention to these "hermits of the rocky mountains," allowing them to forever thrive in their homeland.

This 5A-rated park offers unbeatable value for money; at only 20 yuan per person, it's definitely worth a visit. It's such a great deal! Each area is uniquely beautiful. Families with children will also enjoy it. Because the park is quite large, I recommend taking the mini-train for a more relaxed and less tiring experience.

I was very satisfied with my two-day trip to Meizhou Island. Renting an electric car to explore the island was a lot of fun. Crocodile Mountain is really beautiful. I recommend arriving around 4 pm when it's not too sunny. You can spend two hours there and catch the last shuttle bus. I also really liked the spot at Dripstone Screen, where I saw the sunset, which was perfect.
