Shenmu Station is the third branch of the Alishan Forest Railway, famous for the towering sacred tree that once stood beside it.
Although the sacred tree was struck by lightning and burned in 1956, later becoming a hazard due to weathering, it was finally felled in 1998. Today, visitors can view its remains up close along the trail.
