Heshun Ancient Town is located southwest of Tengchong city, a borderland ancient town with over 600 years of history. Originally settled by military households guarding the frontier, the village was named "Heshun" (meaning "river follows") due to a small river encircling it. Later, locals refined the name to its current form, inspired by the phrase "scholars harmonious, people compliant." As Yunnan's renowned hometown of overseas Chinese and a key caravan hub on the Southwest Silk Road, generations of ancestors traveled to Myanmar for trade—their descendants now spread across more than ten countries and regions. Here, traditional central plains family values, borderland customs, and Western influences brought back from Southeast Asia blend seamlessly in the alleyways, making the entire town resemble an open-air museum of Sino-Western architectural fusion. The ancient town rises gradually along the mountain facing the flatland, with ancestral halls, memorial archways, and old residences from the Ming and Qing dynasties spreading across the slopes. Clan ancestral halls like the Cun and Liu family halls line the alleys—the Liu ancestral hall stands by a stream, housing a teahouse where visitors can sit and enjoy hot tea brewed with Longtan spring water and chestnut charcoal fire. The curved building dwelling museum gets its name from structures following the winding lanes, featuring three courtyards with ingenious East-meets-West designs; the TV series "Beijing Love Story" filmed scenes here. Crossing Shuanghong Bridge leads to a hillside library founded in the late 1920s by overseas Chinese from Myanmar, still serving locals with its 100,000-volume collection today. Heshun takes its food seriously: the local specialty "Dajiu Jia" (literally "life-saving dish") is actually stir-fried rice cakes, thinly sliced and cooked with eggs, ham, and pickled vegetables—oily, fragrant, and named after a legend involving an exiled emperor. The pine pollen cakes from old street-side shops, made with pine pollen and red beans, are delicately sweet and soft. Ginkgo Village is located in Gudong Town, Tengchong City. Originally named Jiangdong Village, it was renamed for the natural, continuous stretches of ancient ginkgo forest within the village. Tens of thousands of ginkgo trees are distributed here, including over a thousand ancient ginkgo trees that are more than a century old. The "Ginkgo King" in the village is over 1,300 years old, making this a concentrated and ancient ginkgo community in Yunnan. Low walls built of volcanic stone wind along both sides of the village roads, and farmhouses with gray tiles and red walls complement the golden ginkgo. Every year from mid-November to early December is the peak season when the ginkgo turns yellow. Ginkgo leaves drift down with the wind, covering the village roads, alleys, and farm courtyards, making the entire village look like a golden world. Entering the park directly with the QR code is convenient. Autumn is a very pleasant time to visit Atami. The walk from the entrance to the Big Boiling Pot is shaded by trees, so it's not too sunny. Soaking your feet and eating some onsen eggs is quite nice! 👍

Heshun Ancient Town, located on the ancient Tea Horse Road, is a caravan stop with a romantic atmosphere. Strolling through the alleys under the blue sky and white clouds, or sitting in a coffee shop or teahouse to relax and unwind, is incredibly comfortable.

The wetland is China's only volcanic barrier lake floating carpet type wetland, surrounded by mountains, with beautiful scenery and large meadows floating on the water. Walking along the wooden boardwalk is very comfortable due to its high altitude (1750m) and high negative oxygen ion content, but migratory birds were not observed much.

The scenic area is nice, but personally, I feel the shuttle bus is pointless. It replaces a section of scenic flat road, making the package ticket a waste. The real challenge is the mountain trails; the high altitude makes climbing them especially strenuous.

From late November to early December, Ginkgo Village transforms into a golden wonderland, a dreamlike world for photographers. I was fortunate enough to witness this beauty in mid-November. Almost every household in the village grows ginkgo trees, with the central square being particularly spectacular, especially the King Ginkgo, a witness to the passage of time. In the rustic courtyards, sitting under the thousand-year-old ginkgo tree, sunlight filtering through the golden leaves, enjoying ginkgo chicken soup, one can feel the warmth of the countryside. A young villager on a small bicycle took us through every corner of the village, telling us its stories.

Prices are very reasonable: swimming goggles are 18 yuan and swimming caps are 10 yuan. Slippers, towels, toiletries, and waterproof plastic bags for phones are provided. The view is excellent; 27 pools were open that day. Transportation is convenient; bus lines 15, 12, and 5 are right outside. Massage is also very affordable: a one-hour foot massage for 168 yuan, with rooms provided. Rooms are fully equipped and include disposable shorts. You can also change into massage clothes. Tissues, fruit, and face towels are provided in the rooms. The water temperature is very comfortable, making swimming very pleasant.

For those who haven't seen the grasslands before, this is a highly recommended attraction in Tengchong. You definitely need a vehicle to get there; a long-range electric scooter is recommended (private cars are charged 60 yuan). It's cold and windy up there, so be sure to bring extra layers.

What a wonderful day! The tour guide was incredibly warm and kind. Even traveling alone, I didn't feel lonely. The tour was very well-prepared; they took photos for me while we walked and gave me edible wild fruits and medicinal herbs. The meals were also delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommended!

Heshun Ancient Town has beautiful scenery and is quite large. If you want to see it all, it's best to rent an electric scooter. The hot spring area isn't large, but the service is excellent. It's worth a visit if you have time.
