You leave Edinburgh and head north over the River Forth towards the Highlands. First stop is Pitlochry, a quintessential Scottish town nestled among the Perthshire hills. Before you enter the Cairngorms National Park, enjoy a cup of coffee and learn why Queen Victoria loved this place. Filled with mountains, rivers, lakes and wildlife hotspots, this ambitious hinterland of the Highlands is a magnet for all nature lovers. We head to Aviemore, a busy hub for outdoor Activities where you can try out the local specialities, before travelling to Loch Morlich, a lake as unique as it is beautiful. Leave the majestic mountains behind and step back in time at the Clava Cairns near Inverness. These ancient standing stones and tumuli are both beautiful and mysterious, made famous by Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander books. It is then a short drive to Inverness where you will be transferred to your accommodation. The evening is free for you to explore the capital of the Highlands. Day 2:After a leisurely Breakfast, you will be picked up from your accommodation and taken into the surrounding countryside. You'll travel to mystical Loch Ness, where you'll have the opportunity to take a boat tour of the loch and visit dramatic Urquhart Castle. Our journey continues south through the Great Glen, passing Ben Nevis, one of the highest mountains in the UK, towards Fort William. You'll stop for Lunch on the way before arriving at Glencoe. One look and you'll see why it's one of Scotland's most famous natural landmarks. This valley also has a tragic story that's over 300 years old... maybe your Guide will tell you all. The return journey continues through the desolate and remote Rannoch Moor and into the lowland scenery around Stirling, eventually returning to our starting point in Edinburgh. *Loch Ness Activities are weather dependent and may be cancelled without notice. *Loch Ness cruises will be closed for the winter from January 8 to January 14, 2024. They will reopen on Monday, January 15. They will also be closed on Monday, January 22.
