Central Reykjavik Our daytime excursions will begin with a quick and efficient transfer service. We will pick you up from your centrally located hotel in Reykjavik or from one of the many designated Pick-up &amp; drop-off point(s). Once all guests are on board, we will begin our exciting journey. As you head toward South Iceland on Highway 1, you can expect to see iconic scenery on both sides: Silvertop glaciers, black-sand lowlands, mossy lava fields and the shimmering Atlantic Ocean in the distance. Iceland’s South Coast is full of dramatic sights. 1. Fjallsárlón Glacier LagoonBefore reaching Jokulsarlon we will stop at Fjallsarlon Glacier Lagoon, a lesser known but totally stunning attraction within Vatnajökull National Park. This offers stunning views of Fjallsarlon Glacier Lagoon and Vatnajökull glacier tongue. <img src="https://ak-d.tripcdn.com/images/0353512000ffhjs8d390E_Z_1000_0.jpg" source="ttd" imageid="52032744" sourcewidth="1080" sourcehight="1080">Although not as well-known as Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, Fjallsarlon is a local favorite for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy kayaking or Speedboating on its tranquil surface, getting up close and personal among the icebergs. The jagged glaciers and numerous crevasses create an unforgettable icy landscape. 2. Jökulsárlón Glacier LagoonAfter a few hours of driving, we will reach our highlight, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, known as the crown jewel of Iceland. It is located near Vatnajökull National Park, about 380 kilometers (236.12 miles) from Reykjavik.<img src="https://ak-d.tripcdn.com/images/0354j12000fdbwzd11F25_Z_1000_0.jpg" source="ttd" imageid="52032765" sourcewidth="1080" sourcehight="1080">Jökulsárlón is renowned for its stunning beauty and ever-changing appearance. It has also inspired many filmmakers. The James Bond films Die Another Day and A View to a Kill were filmed here, as well as Tomb Raider, Batman Begins and The Northman. Jökulsárlón was formed by Breiðarmerkurjökull, one of the outlet glaciers of Iceland's largest ice cap, Vatnajökull. In the 1970s, the retreating glacier left behind a huge pond near the coast, which became Iceland's deepest lake. The icebergs floating in the glacial lake are another major feature you'll notice. They shimmer in different shades of blue. Some even have brown stripes, which are caused by the ash deposits from volcanic eruptions decades ago. After the glacier breaks off, the icebergs tumble and float in the lake, changing color, shape, and appearance. Over time, they break into smaller pieces that are washed into the sea. It's amazing to watch. Summer is a great time to explore the glacier lagoon, and you can choose to take a boat trip and sail among the icebergs. Seeing the icebergs up close is unforgettable. Jökulsárlón is also home to an abundance of wildlife. Arctic terns nest nearby, and adorable seals swim or rest on the icebergs. You can experience Iceland in its purest natural element. 3. Diamond BeachIcebergs that break off from the glacier tongue drift into the lake and are subsequently washed ashore. Some are still huge and blue, others are small and glittering, and these icebergs are scattered on the black sand beach, creating a pleasing contrast. It is truly a unique experience.<img src="https://ak-d.tripcdn.com/images/0351z12000fdbk89a6380_Z_1000_0.jpg" source="ttd" imageid="52032772" sourcewidth="1080" sourcehight="1080">You may find some peace in the fresh sea breeze, and you may even see seals playing in the waves. After visiting the glacier lake and beach, we will return to the capital along the south coast, stopping at several iconic attractions along the way. 4. Stjórnarfoss WaterfallSurprises come one after another as we explore more natural wonders on Iceland’s South Coast. We’ll take a short detour to visit an attractive but lesser-known natural wonder, Skjonnarfoss. This is a highly recommended attraction for a road trip around the island, so we wanted to showcase this lesser-known landmark. Skjönafoss falls in two tiers, each about 15 meters (49.21 feet) high. The lower tier falls on a dome-shaped rock, creating a pleasing symmetrical sight. This photogenic waterfall attracts many photographers due to its unique appearance. Skjönafoss originates from the Skjöna River in the Geirlandshraun mountain and flows out of the valley, creating a mysterious atmosphere. 5. Vík Village and Reynisdrangar Sea StacksVík í Mýrdal is a charming little seaside village with only 300 inhabitants but full of amazing natural wonders for a village at the southern tip of Iceland. There are several shops and gift stores here, providing visitors with a great place to restock supplies and buy souvenirs.<img src="https://ak-d.tripcdn.com/images/0353p12000fdbucpy5D86_Z_1000_0.jpg" source="ttd" imageid="52032779" sourcewidth="1080" sourcehight="1080">Unique natural landscapes make Vik vibrant in summer. Vik's black sand beach is a famous attraction, famous for its diverse landscapes and skillfully carved sea stacks. The sound of huge waves crashing creates a dreamy misty world for visitors. During your stop in Vik, you can take photos of the magnificent Reynisdrangar sea stacks in the distance. 6. Seljalandsfoss WaterfallSeljalandsfoss is one of Iceland's most famous and popular waterfalls, fed by glacial meltwater from the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Falling from a 60-meter high cliff, Seljalandsfoss has a special surprise.<img src="https://ak-d.tripcdn.com/images/0353x12000fe0irnkDBC3_Z_1000_0.jpg" source="ttd" imageid="52032786" sourcewidth="1080" sourcehight="1080">If conditions permit, visitors can walk behind the waterfall and enjoy a panoramic view of the entire area. Journey Complete, Drop-off Central ReykjavikAfter visiting the waterfall, it will take approximately two hours to reach the capital. We will return to the bus and head to Reykjavik along Route 1.
