Fenghuang Ancient CityIt was built in 1704 (the 43rd year of the Kangxi era) during the Qing Dynasty and is located in the Xiangxi Tujin Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Hunan Province.This area is inhabited by the Miao and Tujia ethnic minorities, and the riverside is lined with old houses built around the early 20th century, retaining its old townscape.Houses built on stilts line the Tuo River that runs through the center of the city, and the city is surrounded by high mountains.In the city center, the streetscape from the early 20th century has been carefully preserved, creating a nostalgic atmosphere.It was registered as a National Historic and Cultural City in 2001, and is placed on the same level as the Ancient City of Lijiang in Yunnan Province and the Ancient City of Pingyao in Shanxi Province.Although there are many tourists, it is a peaceful and relaxing place, and you will never get bored no matter how long you wander around.Fenghuang Ancient Town is such a place.In addition to beautiful scenery, the town has also produced many famous people, including Tian Xingshu, the First Rank Minister and Guizhou Admiral, Xiong Xiling, the "Hunan Prodigy" who served as Prime Minister, the famous writer Shen Congwen, and the ink painting master Huang Yongyu.It is especially well known among Chinese people as the hometown of Shen Congwen, who wrote the novel "Border City."The elegant waterside town of Fenghuang has plenty to offer. The narrow, winding alleys are packed with wooden houses, and are attractive enough to draw you in.
