I set it up before departure according to the manual, turned off the main Japanese network before boarding the flight, and then simply turned on the purchased SIM card when I arrived at the local airport. If you have esim on ur phone,don't bother getting a physical sim as this is definitely more affordable. If you are getting for you aged parents who are traveling themselves,it might be slightly challenging for them. great for last minute travels and especially when you run out of data you can just repurchase in the app. Super convenient!
