Reviews: Douro Valley: Private Tour & Guided Wine & Olive Oil Tasting
Guest User2025-08-25
We had a special experience at Quinta de Santa Júlia, nestled in the extraordinary landscape of the Douro Valley, home to some of Portugal's finest wines. During the visit, we tasted two Douro wines and two Port wines, each with its own distinct identity, capable of revealing the history of the region in a single sip. We also sampled an excellent local extra virgin olive oil, intense and rooted in the region's agricultural traditions. Our guide, Mariana, passionately shared the history of the estate and the family, even recalling how their wines reached the royal family of England. She explained the Douro castes, winemaking methods, and how to approach wine with greater awareness. The tour took us through vineyards, gardens, and even into the Quinta's traditional kitchen, making the visit complete and immersive. A journey through flavors, history, and traditions that we recommend without hesitation.

My husband and I had a wonderful time it’s was a super hot day . The boat part was beautiful but long ride on the boat too long for us . The food was very good and the service was excellent 👍🏼. I would definitely recommend the experience. Thank you for a wonderful time.

This experience was the highlight of our trip. Thanks to Paulo, we were able to discover an authentic and historically rich Douro Valley. The day's itinerary was so well-planned that it flew by. From the boat tour on the river to lunch, the port tasting at a local winery, the picnic, and finally all the Jeep rides through the valley's trails, the excursion was simply a complete, magical, and intimate experience. A huge thank you to Paulo for his high-quality work and, above all, his love for his region. Elva and Florent

We traveled to the Douro Valley with two families (4 adults and 3 kids ages 11–13), and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Our first stop was Quinta da Roêda (Croft), where we enjoyed a fun and relaxed port tasting. We then had lunch at a wonderful locals restaurant, Tábua D’aço, easily the best meal of our whole Porto trip, with incredible food and truly amazing staff. After lunch, we enjoyed a scenic one-hour river cruise, followed by an olive oil and wine tasting at D’Origem, which ended up being our favorite stop of the day. João was fantastic throughout the entire experience — attentive, knowledgeable, and incredibly detail-oriented. He also did a great job engaging the kids, which made the day enjoyable for everyone. The car was spotless, comfortable, and perfect for our group. Thank you, João, for making this such a memorable and special experience for our families. Obrigada!

We had the most incredible time! A scenic trip to a small town to grab a coffee, followed by a beautiful and intimate winery, followed by a trip down the Duoro River and finally a home cooked Portuguese meal with a lot more wine! Would recommend this to everyone!
