Day 1We depart Edinburgh and head to Glasgow to pick up more passengers (if you are travelling from Glasgow). We then head west, stopping first at the pretty conservation village of Luss on the shores of Loch Lomond. We enter the atmospheric expanse of Rannoch Moor, passing Black Mount and onto dramatic Glencoe, site of the 1692 MacDonald Clan Massacre. Take a leisurely walk through this poignant valley, soaking up the atmosphere, before continuing north to one of Britain's highest mountains, Ben Nevis. Lunch at Fort William, we drive along the 24 miles of shoreline of Loch Ness, passing Urquhart Castle and on to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, where we will arrive in the early evening. Day 2Today you'll enjoy a flexible itinerary - you can choose to visit the fascinating Culloden Battlefield, where the Jacobites and Bonnie Prince Charlie were defeated by the Duke of Cumberland, as well as see the ancient stones of the Neolithic Clava Cairns. Afterwards, you'll have the opportunity to visit and taste whisky at the Dalwhinnie Distillery. After Lunch we move south to visit Ruthven Barracks, an old military fortress founded by General Wade. We continue our journey back through The Hermitage, where we stop for a relaxing forest walk (this option is only possible during the summer months), before crossing the Forth Bridge and returning to Edinburgh where the tour ends.
