You start in Glasgow and head into the Highlands along the shores of “beautiful, beautiful” Loch Lomond, Scotland’s largest loch named after the mountain Ben Lomond on its eastern shore. Crossing an ancient natural fault line that runs the length of Scotland, you enter the majestic Highlands, where the landscape changes dramatically. The plains of the lowlands transform into shimmering lochs, rugged peaks and wooded valleys. It’s so stunningly beautiful that it’s easy to forget that this was once a battleground for fiercely territorial Highland tribes. Heading north through Breadalbane ("Highland Country of Scotland"), you begin the climb to Rannoch Moor. This 1,000-foot-high plain is covered in heather, peat bogs, and dozens of lochs. It contrasts with the dramatic mountain scenery of Buachaille Etive Mor ("Great Shepherd of Etive"). Next, you'll head to Glencoe, one of Scotland's famous valleys, where you'll be mesmerized by its beautiful cliff faces and steep slopes. After passing Glencoe you enter a deep glacial valley known as the Great Glen. Passing through the town of Fort William you'll pass Ben Nevis, one of Britain's highest mountains, before arriving at Fort Augustus on the shores of Loch Ness. Fort Augustus is famous for its Caledonian Canal, a great spot to rest and watch the boats go by. You will stop here for one hour and enjoy Lunch. After Lunch, you will have the opportunity to take a cruise aboard the luxurious 'Cruise Loch Ness' boat on the Fort Augustus*. Taking to the water is your chance to spot the Loch Ness Monster and admire the beauty of this mysterious loch. After leaving this picturesque town, you begin your journey back to Glasgow, with many beautiful stops for photos and views along the way, including the quaint town of Pitlochry. You continue south through the forests of Perthshire before arriving in Glasgow in the evening. *The Loch Ness Cruise is weather dependent and may be cancelled without notice.
