A Perfect Private Car Tour of Turkey's D400 Highway: True Romance Between Mountains and Sea
If you're looking for a relaxed yet in-depth way to experience Turkey's coastline, I highly recommend this private car tour of the D400 from Fethiye to Antalya. It avoids the fatigue of self-driving while offering the freedom of independent travel, allowing you to focus entirely on the scenery flowing past your window.
Let's start with the overall car tour experience: Our driver (I can mention his name if you remember) was incredibly professional. Many sections of the D400 are winding mountain roads, with cliffs on one side and the Mediterranean Sea on the other. Driving yourself might be nerve-wracking, but our driver was steady and experienced. He even proactively stopped at some amazing viewpoints not marked on maps for us to take photos—a flexibility that tour buses can't provide.
Two stops that left a deep impression on me:
1. Kaputas Beach: A Truly "Instagrammable" Beauty
I had seen countless photos before, but seeing it in person was still breathtaking. It resembles a giant blue fissure, nestled between cliffs. The seawater is a layered emerald and azure, crystal clear. Descending the long steps to the beach, the sand was fine and the water refreshingly cool. Although there were quite a few tourists, finding a spot to spread out a towel and swimming in the clear water for a while instantly relieved fatigue. Friendly reminder: The afternoon sun is best, but it's also more crowded; climbing the steps requires some effort.
2. Kaş Town: A Leisurely Afternoon
Unlike the grandeur of Kaputas, Kaş offers a sense of relaxation. The town center isn't large, but its layout is exquisite. We strolled along the seaside promenade, looking at the harbor filled with yachts and the Greek islands across the water, feeling particularly at peace. The town has many interesting shops selling handicrafts, jewelry, and carpets; it's quite enjoyable to browse. We had lunch at a restaurant with a sea view; the grilled fish and salad were fresh and delicious. It lacks the hustle and bustle of big cities or popular tourist destinations; it's a place where you want to slow down, have a coffee, and simply relax.
About the D400 highway itself:
This is absolutely the soul of the journey. The entire journey takes approximately 4-5 hours (excluding long stops), and the scenery is never the same. The most breathtaking section feels like the road hugs the cliffside coastline, with steep mountains on your left and the vast, unrealistically blue Mediterranean Sea on your right. The visual impact is something you can only truly appreciate by experiencing it firsthand. Hiring a car allows us to stop whenever we want, capturing those fleeting moments of beauty.

For travelers who don't want the hassle of self-driving but still want to deeply appreciate the Turkish Mediterranean scenery, hiring a car is the best solution. This day trip around Antalya, covering Guperguet, the Aspendos Theatre, and Sidé, was a satisfying experience overall. Guide Recep provided a well-planned itinerary and engaging commentary, making the historical sites even more captivating. Transportation was punctual and smooth, with comfortable vehicles that saved the hassle of transfers. Considering the opportunity to visit three classic sites in one day, the price was reasonable, the itinerary rich, and the combination of cultural depth and Mediterranean beauty made it excellent value for money and highly recommended.About
