Attractions and Activities: Archaeological site of Mycenae (At your own expense) Next we come to the imposing remains of Ancient Mycenae, one of the most important sites in the development of Ancient Greece. Not only central to the ‘Mycenaean period, from 1600 to 1100 BC which formed the first major widespread civilization in Europe at the time, but also home to the palace of the legendary Agamemnon, leader of the Greeks during the Trojan War. Passing through the 20-meter wide city walls, entering through the gigantic lion's gate and exploring Agamemnon's throne room and associated Toombs of the site with their huge construction is an amazing experience. Nafplion has a definite artistic feel with enchanting narrow streets of Neoclassic & Venetian architecture, upmarket local craft & clothes shops. Its seafront is packed with cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes with views to the Venetian castle of Bourtzi in the bay.
