My guide was Mario, he met me at the starting point and we processed up into Santa Marta. Mario had good English and tried to articulate how his community is trying to be self reliant. Highlight of the trip for me was visiting where Michael Jackson filmed, "They don't care about us." I would highly recommend Mario to be your guide to the favela.★

The favela tour was so much more than I expected it to be. This was a remarkable experience. Our guide was truly an outstanding person who gave us a very respectful and intelligent insight into the community and life in the favela. It was an emotional trip and one I’ll never forget. Such inspiring people living in trying circumstances showed me the human spirit and love of family and neighbour is alive in these wonderful communities. Taking care of the children and keeping families intact and safe is key. A profound experience I would recommend to everyone.★
