Reviews: Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta Day Tour

We had a great day on this tour. We were picked up in Ho Chi Minh City and went by bus to see the Cu Chi tunnels from the Vietnam War. It was very interesting and informative, and the guide explained a lot. Walking inside the tunnels was amazing - very narrow and unforgettable. After that we had lunch, and it was a big surprise: a lot of food and everything was very tasty. Then we went to the Mekong River and had a nice boat ride, which was really fun. We also saw how coconut candies are made and visited a small honey farm. Our guide Luis was excellent. He was very friendly, helpful, answered all our questions, and clearly cared about making the tour enjoyable. We really appreciated his effort. Highly recommended!

I went there specifically to shoot guns. The price is shown in picture 1. The tunnels themselves aren't very interesting, since China also had tunnel warfare, so it's not anything special. The round trip from Ho Chi Minh City takes 4 hours, and I don't think it's worth the long journey just to see the tunnels. I was just going to shoot guns and then visit this attraction on the side. It fulfilled my dream of shooting guns, so I thought it was okay, and I could tolerate the long journey.

The tour was a 10-person English-speaking group booked on Ctrip. The actual group consisted of 9 people: 2 American women, a Korean-American couple, a woman from Shanghai, and our family of four. The woman from Shanghai originally booked a 22-person group but was reassigned to our 10-person group after the group couldn't be formed. Overall, the trip was good, but it didn't quite meet my expectations. Our guide, Doc, was enthusiastic and sincere, but his spoken English needs improvement. The vehicle was a Ford D-Car, and the equipment matched the advertising. Dissatisfaction included extra charges and excessive product recommendations, although not mandatory. The local tour operator, SST, demanded an extra 250,000 VND in holiday cash tips per person, which was unreasonable and exceeded the terms of our Ctrip booking. There were a total of 8 promotional activities throughout the trip, including local art factories, local honey, singer tips, boatman tips, and some food recommendations. The main attractions are the Vietnam War tunnel warfare battlefield tour and the final kilometer-long tropical rainforest boat ride, which is quite fun. There was a paid shooting game in the middle; we bought two sets of 20 bullets. My son and I planned to each shoot a set, but minors are prohibited, so my dad finished the whole thing. The bullet cost a total of 1.35 million VND, which is close to 70,000 VND per bullet – definitely expensive. Other soft-sell tactics were barely acceptable, but I hope they can be reduced; there were a total of 9 such attempts. Hard tips were unacceptable as it was difficult to negotiate on-site, and I was forced to accept them. Overall, I'm 80-85% satisfied. I hope the guides and boatmen won't keep asking for tips in the future, and I also hope that all sales pitches will be eliminated, especially since it's advertised as a "pure tour."

Our driver, Amin, was a Chinese-American who spoke excellent Mandarin. Our family of four had originally booked a small car, but they were unavailable for the day, so they assigned us a nine-seater luxury van. Honestly, this was far too luxurious for an average family trip. Secondly, visiting the Cu Chi area in Ho Chi Minh City is truly unique. It's both historically significant and very interesting. Many tour groups from various countries come here, mostly Europeans and Americans, to see why the West couldn't win the Vietnam War. It's also very entertaining. You can climb through the tunnels, eat cassava, visit underground meeting rooms, see underground war films, and even an underground medical station. Frankly, our Chinese tunnel warfare sites aren't as fun as this.
