Reviews: Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City & Treasure Museum Small Group Tour

This was an amazing guided tour of the forbidden city, Tiananmen Square and the central axis. It was super busy but our guide Icy was super fast and efficient and knew how to get us through the queues and crowds. A very informative morning and I’m so glad I did it!

The tour includes an entrance ticket to the Forbidden City and the Treasure Museum. Your ticket is tied to your passport! Don't forget it. There were 10 of us in our group. Entry through the main southern gate was quick. Pick up your bag for the morning after 9 a.m. The tour lasts about 4 hours. The grounds are so vast that you won't be able to see everything. We visited all the main halls and the gates leading to them, the chambers of Empress Dowager Cixi, the Treasure Museum, and exited through the North Gate. Unfortunately, no one is allowed inside the halls, and it's difficult to see much through the half-open doors and dirty glass. The Treasure Museum was incredibly crowded, so we couldn't get a good look. Chinese New Year was probably a factor. The tour was well organized. Our guide, Alina, was very responsive and helped us not only with the tour but also with other pressing questions. However, I personally missed more detailed historical facts (which is why I took the tour, as audio guides often fail during independent exploration).

I was very satisfied with the choice. Teacher Song was very professional and enthusiastic, and her explanations were very thorough. Although we only visited a part of the Forbidden City, we learned a lot in just one morning.

1. Solid Knowledge Base: Clear historical context, in-depth explanations, not just reciting a script. 2. Effective Interaction: Skilled at creating an engaging atmosphere, maintaining group focus through Q&A. 3. Unique Itinerary Design: Able to uncover hidden gems outside the usual routes, avoiding crowds. 4. Thoughtful Extended Services: Provides follow-up guidance after the tour ends, offering comprehensive service. Xiucai says that tour leader Li Yan is an excellent guide with both professional expertise and a strong service-oriented mindset. She not only fulfilled the basic tasks of "leading the way" and "explaining," but also enhanced the overall cultural experience through unique routes and thoughtful suggestions, meeting the expectations of a high-quality tour guide—truly a five-star tour leader. Suggestion: Three hours is a bit short for the Forbidden City; it's vast. Could the time be extended to cover more areas?

Today I participated in a guided tour of Prince Gong's Mansion by "Teacher Zeng, the Top Scholar of Beijing". I can only say that the time was too short. His insightful explanations would have made it worth a whole day. However, Teacher Zeng took us to all the places we should visit and saw, and explained everything in detail. I benefited a lot from the tour.
