This was far more than just a food tour ā it was a true experience of Kolkata at night. The guide, Avik Mitra, is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his city. He shared fascinating stories about local life, culture, and history while leading me through the lively northern part of the city. We explored narrow old streets, took local transport, and visited small traditional eateries that have been serving amazing Bengali food for generations ā some for more than a hundred years! Each stop felt authentic and full of character. The dishes were delicious, but what made the evening special was the insight and warmth Avik brought to every moment. It felt like walking the city with a local friend who knows every hidden gem. Highly recommended!ā

Guide and Experience
Muzaffar is an extremely knowledgeable guide, articulate and passionate about the history, culture, and details of Kolkata and India in general. He answered all our probably weird questions, making the entire experience engaging and fun. We learned a significant amount about the city and we would not have been able to set up such a tour by ourselves.
Muzaffar provides an exceptional service and is nice, kind, friendly, and very flexible, easily adjusting the tour to our personal preferences and requests. The driver is also to praise for navigating the Kolkata traffic.
Tour Highlights
The tour hits all the main sites but can be customized. This is what we visited:
We started by a memorable and humbling visite at Mother Teresa house museum and tomb.
Our guide also took us to three Jain temples in Kolkata (Dadabari and Mahavira Temple), spread over three complexes.
We then went to New Market, a massive olf covered market where you can find everything from needle to diamond. Quite an experience. We bought some spices and tea.
We visited the old english district with massive buildings and later the park around Victoria Memorial (opted for not going inside) and St Paul's Cathedral.
The Flower Market was quite an authentic experience with Muzaffar guiding us through the narrow streets below the Howrah Bridge.
The peaceful visit to the "potter's district in Kumartuli to see amazing clay sculptures being created for the festivals and learning about it was for me the highlight.
We also went to College Street for coffee and snacks at the Indian Coffee House and were gifted a poetry book by Rabindranath Tagore, Nobel prize of litterature.
Value
This private tour is really the most effective way to see the city. The high quality of the experience, especially with Muzaffar, will save you time and headache if this is your first time in India and a little apprehensive to discover such a big city.ā

Reviews: Day trip from Kolkata to Bishnupur for Terracotta Temples and Silk

The road to Bishnupur is very rough through Arambagh and traffic will be a challenge from central Kolkata, especially returningadter 5pm. Once you get near Bishnupur, the trip really improves. The drive through the Joypur Forest is beautiful and gets you in the right frame of mind to visit the temples. We had a small car which could navigate through the small streets and didn't take scooter tuktuks. Our *** guide, Sauvik, and driver were very knowledgeable as was our local temple guide. The temples themselves are beautiful and the artistry of the terracotta work is to behold. We visited the Ras Mancha, the Jor Bangla Temple, the Lalji Temple, and Radhashyam Temple. To see all of the temples requires an overnight stay. The key was to get a very knowledgeable local temple guide and we got an excellent guide who described in detail the intricacies of each temple including historical dates, construction features and details. The tour included all expenses for the local temple guide as well as a lunch meal and tea along the way there and back. The tour also included a stop at a local Baluchari sari production unit where you can see the craftsmen making the saris using handlooms. There is a sari shop there, as well, with an excellent selection of local saris.ī„
