● The Death Railway was built by Japan during World War II to connect Bangkok, Thailand and Yangon, Myanmar. Thousands of people died in the construction of this railway, hence the name "Death Railway."

● In Kanchanaburi, 122 kilometers northwest of Bangkok, the Bridge over the River Kwai, a bridge spanning the River Kwai, reflects a period of history during World War II: during the Japanese occupation of Thailand, Allied prisoners of war were forced to build a railway connecting Burma and Siam. This railway, completed at the cost of countless lives, earned the nickname "Death Railway." The Bridge over the River Kwai is one section of this railway, known as the "throat" of the "Death Railway." The terrain on one side of the bridge is relatively flat, but once across the river, steep peaks appear, and some sections are even carved into cliffs.
