Octopus is great for transportation, it is also easiest for all payments. Therefore suggest topping up. HKD50 finishes fast. Hong Kong still cash and Octopus. Higher end places will accept Credit Card. Higher end only.★

You'll still need one in Hong Kong; it's generally accepted at most restaurants. If a restaurant doesn't accept it, it's best to avoid it – it's too ostentatious. However, note that upscale restaurants usually don't accept it, but they do accept international credit cards.
