Reviews: From Auckland: Waitomo Caves and Kiwi House Group Tour

Everything was perfect! The only downside, and it wasn't the activity itself, was a screaming baby when we would have preferred to enjoy the peace and quiet of the place. Please, don't bring your infants with you; it can frighten them and potentially spoil the visit for other people.

The day trip was excellent. Sam was a superb guide who shared his knowledge along the way which makes the drive to and from much more interesting. He was very flexible with our group and we learned about some wonderful places to eat, soak your feet or get ice cream. Highly recommend this daytrip!

The Waitomo Caves offer an unforgettable experience that blends natural beauty, geological wonder, and cultural history. A guided tour with Warren transforms the visit into something truly special. His deep knowledge, engaging storytelling, and passion for the caves bring every formation and passage to life. The caves themselves are a masterpiece of nature with intricate limestone formations, sculpted over millions of years, create a surreal underground landscape. The glow worms, though not as expansive as some might expect, still provide a breathtaking sight. Their soft, ethereal light reflects off the cave walls and water, creating a tranquil, almost otherworldly atmosphere. Warren’s explanations of the cave’s history, from its formation to its discovery and cultural significance, add depth to the experience. Learning about the delicate ecosystem, the ancient stalactites and stalagmites, and the Māori legends connected to the area makes the journey both educational and awe-inspiring.

Walk 1 is the most worthwhile out of the 3. If tight timing can just do that and catch the bus to the last stop for the boat ride, which should not be missed - quality views, comfortable boats and great guide.

The whole trip was very well organised from pick up to drop off. We had WiFi on the coach. Our guide, Louise, was fabulous. She sang Maori songs to us and taught us a song! She was very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend
