The Deathly Dark Tour of York is hands-down one of the best things you can do in the city. Equal parts spine-chilling, hilarious and brilliantly informative, it manages to bring Yorkβs grim history to life without ever taking itself too seriously.
Our guide was outstanding, charismatic, knowledgeable, and perfectly paced, with just the right balance of genuine historical detail and dark humour. Youβre not just told ghost stories; youβre immersed in the real (often gruesome) past of York, with tales of executions, plague, murder and mayhem delivered in a way that keeps you hooked from start to finish.
Even if you think you know York well, this tour reveals layers youβd never notice wandering the streets on your own. Atmospheric routes, clever storytelling, and moments that genuinely made us laugh out loud (and occasionally shiver).
If you want a ghost tour thatβs smart, entertaining, and memorable β not cheesy or gimmicky β this is the one. Would 100% do it again and recommend it to anyone visiting York.
