Really informative site that gives you a better idea of life in the caves of Matera. While it is possible to see homes like the Casa Grotta di vico Solitario that are furnished and show you what a cave dwelling looked like in the past, the Hypogeum/Ipogeo is more like an underground town. It shows you how structures were interconnected and a few different kinds of underground structures like a mill and a warehouse. You have to use your imagination a bit more as it is unfurnished, but it is fascinating to see. The audio guide is accessible using a QR code and is provides helpful explanations. I see somebody else said they were in and out in 15 minutes but I was there 1/2 an hour and wish I had allowed myself more time (as I had to catch a bus) - I guess it depends on your level of interest and how much time you spend reading/listening to the information available, I found it a very interesting place to explore. The staff member was very friendly and helpful.โ

Lots of good historical details. Visit to one of the original cave dwellings was very interesting. Old verses new, rich verses poor, story as old as time. ๎ฅ
