The Mayan culture is a wonderful culture, incredibly developed for its time, advanced in writing, language, and astronomy.

As scheduled we were picked up at 8:00 AM from meeting point and returned to the pickup location around 9:35 PM. The bus was clean and comfortable, with our group of 59 tourists split between two guides—Javier (English) and Louis (Spanish). José was our bus driver. The ride began around 8:50 AM from Playa Del Carmen, and during the drive Javier introduced us to Mayan history and Mayan calendar which lead to sales pitch. Mayan Calendar with our names was priced over 30 USD. Quite a few people went for it. Our first stop was roughly two hour visit in Chichén Itzá. Visit felt a bit rushed, but thank you to our guide and cooperating weather we were able to see all the main attractions of this archaeological site, with time for photos and a quick look around each location. At El Castillo we had about 20 minutes with option to walk around a temple, take photos or hide in shade. Next, we visited the Noolhá Cenote. We spent about an hour there. There was time to change, swim, or simply relax and enjoy the atmosphere. After the cenote, we headed to Kaua for a buffet lunch. Time on the bus to Kaua was dedicated little bit to Mayan people living today in Mexico and to obsidian, black volcaninc glass. This info suppouse to help us spend money in the next stop, which included both the gastronomic and cultural portion of the tour. It was followed by a visit in expensive and grossly overpriced "gift shop". Our final stop was a short visit to Valladolid. Even though it was already dark, the city center was lively and full of charm. Overall, it was a long day but definitely worth it. Personally, I would have preferred more time at Chichén Itzá and an at least half hour less time in Kaua, but the tour was well organized and ran smoothly. I guess, without some rush we would not be able to see so much in Chitzen Itza. Javier, our English-speaking guide, did an excellent job, and my wife and I had a great time.

Abbi was an excellent guide for the day. He picked us up from our hotel on time, was a safe driver, answered all of our questions about the local area, and arranged for all of our tickets and plans for the day. He provided clear and detailed information for us at each stop and was flexible with the needs of our own family. Francisco was our guide at Chichen Itza and he was deeply knowledgeable and taught us more than we would have learned walking around on our own.

The guide, Rodrigo, was such a great story teller and engaged with us on the tour very well. Never a dull moment - you could feel his passion for the history and the area. Jose our driver was also spectacular - we felt safe the whole time.
