Reviews: Shuttle bus to Mount Aso included: Kumamoto Castle + Mount Aso + Kusasenri Day Trip

Our tour guide, Ms. Zhuo, was incredibly genuine, with a wonderful personality and a straightforward nature. Unlike other tour guides who are often driven by self-interest, she genuinely shared the best local food and attractions with us. The entire trip was very relaxing and perfectly planned, making for a smooth day. We avoided traffic jams and didn't waste any time. It was the luckiest trip of our entire trip, and I'd love to see her again! The driver was also a wonderful presence, providing enthusiastic and engaging explanations that were especially entertaining.

The meeting point was near the Starbucks at the Higashi-Ziguchi intersection of Hakata Station, and we departed on time. Some tourists overslept and didn't wait; they were very punctual. The vehicle was in good condition, and the air conditioning was strong. The tour guide was very enthusiastic. Kumamoto Castle and Mount Aso were both great. Despite the heat, Kumamoto Castle was worth visiting; it had air conditioning, and the panoramic views from the top were breathtaking. There were also many food options on the first floor; the horse meat fried cakes were delicious, and the watermelon-limited-edition soda was very refreshing. During Mount Aso's active period, the vehicle couldn't take us to the closest point for viewing, which was a pity. The ice cream on the mountain was delicious and worth trying. The lunch set meals were also good, although the prices on the mountain were a bit high. The air was fresh, and walking on the grass was much cooler than down below.
Reviews: Free Aso Volcano Shuttle Bus: Kumamoto Castle, Mt. Aso, and Kusasenri Day Trip

Our guide, Yoshitani, was very friendly! Unfortunately, it coincided with the "mountain scorching" (wildfire) of Mount Aso, a traditional event held annually in February and March in the Aso region of Kumamoto Prefecture. The aim is to maintain the vast grassland landscape, prevent deforestation, and prepare for new grass growth in spring by burning dry grass. Everything was a dark, smoky black. We'll have to come back another day!
Reviews: 1-day tour in Kyushu Kumamoto: Kumamoto Castle + Mount Aso + Kusasenri | Departing from Fukuoka
Guest User2025-11-09
Overall, a great experience! The most anticipated part was Mount Aso, and the weather was fantastic. We were lucky enough to get close to the crater, making it well worth the trip. For those who enjoy sightseeing, the tour included stops in Kusanagi for lunch and free time, so it didn't feel rushed. The tour leader was excellent, providing plenty of emotional support; very professional and highly recommended. If you're on a vacation abroad and don't want to drive, and want to escape the city, I highly recommend this carefree, relaxing day trip.
Reviews: Departing from Kumamoto/Fukuoka, explore Kumamoto Castle + Kusasenri + Mount Aso + Aso Boy in Kyushu

On the way there, we were told the crater was closed, but it opened during the journey! We were so lucky to get to go up the mountain and see it up close – it was truly spectacular! For the return trip, we chose the ASO Boy train; the scenery through the windows was like something out of a comic book. It was the most therapeutic little train ride I've ever had! Our tour guide, Zheng Weijun, deserves praise – he was dedicated, very humorous, and loved by the children! We were extremely satisfied with the entire day trip!
Reviews: [Lunch Included, Optional Boat Ticket] Japan Kyushu Takachiho Gorge + Kumamoto Aso Volcano Kusasenri Day Trip
Guest User2025-11-16
The itinerary was excellent and well-planned. The weather was perfect that day, allowing for close-up views of the crater. The scenery was beautiful, and the pace was relaxed and enjoyable. The tour guide spoke excellent Japanese, provided thorough explanations, and avoided being verbose or pushy. The beef set meal at the Chinese restaurant was also very good. This day trip is highly recommended. However, getting into Aso on your own is quite challenging, as it involves driving for over an hour through the mountains.
