Zhengding Ancient City

Zhengding Ancient City is located 15 km north of Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province. Built according to traditional Chinese planning concepts and architectural styles, it embodies China's historical and cultural characteristics from the 5th to 19th centuries, showcasing the wisdom and perseverance of ancient laborers. Historically known as one of the "Three Northern Strongholds" alongside Baoding and Beijing, its southern gate still bears a stone inscription reading "Stronghold of Three Passes." Zhengding is also the hometown of Zhao Zilong, a renowned general from the Three Kingdoms period. The long and rich history has endowed Zhengding Ancient City with magnificent and uniquely styled cultural relics and historic sites, renowned for its "Three Invisible Mountains, Nine Non-Flowing Bridges, Nine Towers, Four Pagodas, and Eight Great Temples, along with Twenty-Four Exquisite Memorial Archways." "Three Invisible Mountains" refers to the fact that Zhengding was historically the administrative center of the Zhongshan State, Hengshan Commandery, and Changshan Commandery, yet the area itself has no mountains. "Nine Non-Flowing Bridges" describes a single-arched three-path stone bridge in front of the Longxing Temple, as well as the pan bridges (ancient pan bridges typically featured three parallel bridges) in front of the Prefectural Confucian Temple and the Zhengding County Confucian Temple—none of which have flowing water. "Nine Towers, Four Pagodas, and Eight Great Temples" refers to the original four gate towers, four corner towers, and the Yanghe Tower within the city; the four pagodas are the Tianning Temple Pagoda, Huata Pagoda of Guanghui Temple, Xumi Pagoda, and Chengling Pagoda of Linji Temple; the eight great temples include Longxing Temple, Guanghui Temple, Linji Temple, Kaiyuan Temple in Zhengding Ancient City, Tianning Temple, Hongji Temple, Sheli Temple, and Chongyin Temple—the latter three of which have been destroyed. Zhengding once boasted 24 magnificent memorial archways, including the Xu Family Archway, Liang Family Archway, Ancient Changshan County, Supreme Virtue Reaching Heaven, Virtue Matching Heaven and Earth, and Wooden Bell for All Affairs. However, due to historical changes, weathering, and especially the destruction during the decade-long Cultural Revolution, many precious cultural relics were damaged. Yet with 9 nationally protected relics, 6 provincially protected relics, and over 10 county-level protected relics, Zhengding still retains the grandeur of a renowned historical and cultural city. The ancient city of Zhengding was designated as a provincial-level historical and cultural city in 1990 and recognized as a national historical and cultural city in 1994. Zhengding's tourism features a unique blend of "modern and ancient," "elegant and folk" characteristics. Among its historical sites, the Longxing Temple, originally built in 586 AD during the Sui Dynasty and expanded under the decree of Emperor Zhao Kuangyin, the founding emperor of the Song Dynasty, stands majestic and well-preserved. It enjoys high acclaim both domestically and internationally, praised by renowned architect Liang Sicheng as "the foremost temple beyond the capital." The temple's "Reclining Guanyin" mural sculpture was hailed by Lu Xun as "the Goddess of Eastern Beauty."Revolving Sutra LibraryDubbed by physicists as a prime example of Newton's laws in action, along with China's scripture cabinets. The Sui Dynasty Longzang Temple Stele is one of the country's renowned ancient stone inscriptions, showcasing the evolution from Han clerical script to Tang regular script, praised by Kang Youwei as "the finest Sui stele." Standing 22 meters tall, the grand Buddha statue is among China's earliest and tallest surviving bronze standing Buddhas. The cross-shaped Mani Hall exemplifies classic Song Dynasty architectural techniques. Zhengding's vicinity also boasts four famous pagodas, including Huagong Pagoda at Guanghui Temple—a brilliant fusion of diamond throne and floral pagoda styles. Tianning Temple's...Lingxiao PagodaIt is the foremost wooden pavilion tower in China. The symmetrical arrangement of the Tang Dynasty bell tower and ancient pagoda at Kaiyuan Temple in Zhengding Ancient City exemplifies the transition in Chinese Buddhist temple architecture from pagoda-centered to hall-centered layouts. The Chengling Pagoda at Linji Temple serves as the reliquary pagoda for Master Yixuan, founder of the Linji school of Buddhism, and has become a symbol of Sino-Japanese friendship. Located within Zhengding, the Zhengding Rongguo Mansion was meticulously designed and constructed according to descriptions in Cao Xueqin's literary masterpiece "Dream of the Red Chamber" while strictly adhering to China's "Great Qing Code", making it the country's first architectural complex replicating Ming-Qing architectural styles. Most scenes from the TV series adaptation of "Dream of the Red Chamber" were filmed here. The Qing Dynasty-style Ningrong Street by Rongguo Mansion's west gate stretches over 200 meters, where pivotal scenes like "Imperial Consort Yuan's Homecoming" and "Qin Keqing's Funeral" were shot. With over 1,600 years of history, Zhengding Ancient City's walls were originally earthen fortifications during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, rebuilt in stone during the Northern Zhou Dynasty, expanded into earthen walls during the Tang Dynasty, and finally reconstructed as 24-li (approximately 12 km) brick walls during the Ming Dynasty. The surviving 8,106-meter Ming-era walls feature four magnificent gates: Yingxu (later renamed Huancui) to the east, Changle to the south, Zhenyuan to the west, and Yong'an to the north. While time has eroded the western and northern gates, the eastern gate was entirely buried under 1960s military fortifications. In 2001, the southern gate tower and 50-meter flanking walls were restored through public donations of original bricks and a CNY 3.99 million investment.Zhengding · 414m from downtown

The Zhengding Ancient City Wall was built in the Northern Zhou Dynasty and was originally built as a stone. Due to historical reasons and the development of urban construction in recent years, Zhengding City has been mostly Tucheng except for the existing city gates. Dongchengmen has been buried under the national defense work, the south gate of the city gate and the city gate, the west of the city gate, the city gate, the north of the city gate and the moon gate. The restoration or alteration of later generations is also carried out on this basis. Played an important role in preventing floods and military defense.Zhengding · 1.5 km from downtown

This is a Buddhist holy site well worth visiting. The Thousand-Handed and Thousand-Eyed Buddha and the mural of the Reclining Guanyin are historical and artistic treasures that have been preserved intact for future generations to appreciate and understand history! An even greater gain was visiting the memorial hall of Mr. Liang Sicheng, where I learned about the contributions he and Lin Huiyin made to the preservation of historical sites in my country and their transmission in education, so that we, the later generations, can appreciate these historical sites!

No reservation is required for Zhengding Museum. You only need to go through a simple security check and show your ID card to enter. As a famous historical and cultural city, Zhengding cannot have too little museum content. There are exhibition halls on the first floor and the second floor. I only visited the first floor and the second floor for three hours and I couldn't see any more. The first floor tells the history of Zhengding in a timeline, and the second floor tells the history in topics such as porcelain, historical celebrities, folk specialties, and statues and stone carvings.

The Shijiazhuang Liberation Memorial Hall is a major revolutionary historical memorial in Shijiazhuang, commemorating the city's liberation in 1947. After renovations, the memorial reopened in April 2023 at its new location (formerly the old Shijiazhuang Railway Station), becoming a key revolutionary landmark in the provincial capital. The Shijiazhuang Liberation Memorial Hall is more than just a historical museum; it is a spiritual center that carries on the revolutionary legacy and inspires future generations. Through detailed historical materials and modern exhibition techniques, visitors can deeply understand the extraordinary significance of Shijiazhuang's liberation, experience the heroic spirit of its revolutionary predecessors, and witness the city's glorious journey from "the founding city" to a modern metropolis. For visitors seeking to understand the history of Shijiazhuang and the history of China's Liberation War, this is a must-see.

【Environment】 🚗There is a parking lot in front of the city wall, and it is free. It is much better than the domestic attractions where you have to park your car far away and take a paid shuttle bus. It saves a lot of energy. 🏠It is not very tiring to climb the city wall. You can overlook the ancient city of Zhengding from above. The scenery is pretty good. The display board introduces the history of the ancient city of Zhengding and the attractions in the ancient city. Some pavilions on the city wall are still under repair. . 【Service】 🚾There is a public toilet under the city wall. It is very clean and has air conditioning and sofas for tourists to rest. 🍵There is a direct drinking water point, which provides direct drinking water of different temperatures. It is very convenient, unlike most domestic ones that can only enjoy this service at the tourist service center.

Linji Temple was built in the second year of the Xinghe era of Emperor Xiaojing of the Eastern Wei Dynasty (540 AD). In the eighth year of the Dazhong era of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (854 AD), Yixuan, the founder of the Linji school (who received ordination from Zen Master Huangbo Xiyun), came to Linji Temple as abbot. Zen Master Yixuan used methods such as "Three Mysteries, Three Essentials, Four Comparisons, Four Guests and Hosts, Four Shouts and Eight Sticks" to guide his disciples. His style was strict and rigorous, attracting many followers, thus establishing a school. Because Linji Temple was located in the southeast corner of Zhenzhou City, Hebei Province, on the side of the Hutuo River, it was named Linji, one of the five schools of Zen Buddhism. Zhengding Linji Temple is the ancestral temple of the Linji school.

I never imagined the old Shijiazhuang Railway Station area could be so interesting to explore! I strolled to Jiefang Square in the evening and caught the sunset. The orange-pink sky paired with the old buildings and monuments was absolutely stunning; every snapshot looked beautiful. Shiguang Platform is a must-see. A green train is parked there, exuding a strong retro vibe. Walking around and taking photos on the platform is incredibly photogenic. I recommend arriving half an hour before sunset to see the changing colors of the sky and wait for the lights to come on—the atmosphere is even more amazing. It's right next to Jiefang Square Station on Metro Line 1. After exploring, you can also visit Zhengtai and Wanli Temple, which offer everything you need for food, drinks, and entertainment. I would definitely recommend it to friends.

Yanghe Tower is located in the middle section of Yanzhao South Street in Zhengding County, Hebei Province. It is a core building of the ancient city's "Nine Towers, Four Pagodas, and Eight Great Temples". The brick platform spanning the street is shaped like a city gate. There are steps on the east side for going up and down, and circular arched gates on the left and right to separate pedestrians and vehicles. There is a stele pavilion on each side. The tower is a seven-bay single-eave hip roof structure. The plaque "Yanghe Tower" hangs on the south side, and the plaque "Guangda Gaoming" from the Ming Dynasty hangs on the north side. In the center is a square stone inscribed with "Rongxi" by Zhu Xi.

The gray-white square building stands at the end of the square. The stone steps are wide, but few people step on it. There are two antique stone beasts standing at the door. The carvings are rough and look like they are newly carved. The air-conditioning in the museum is turned on fully, and the pottery figurines in the glass cabinet are glowing with bluish-white light. The arrowheads of the Warring States Period, the tiles of the Han Dynasty, and the Buddha statues of the Northern Dynasties all lie silently under the spotlights. The small characters on the labels are dense, but few people stop to read them carefully. The most lively place is the electronic screen in the interactive area. Children rush to click and piece together the patterns of thousands of years ago into funny patterns. The corridor on the second floor is hung with photos of the revolutionary history of the region, and the glass reflects the blurred reflections of tourists. An old man trembled and pointed at a yellowed image, saying something to his grandchildren, but the children were only fiddling with the beverage bottle in their hands. The souvenir counter at the exit lists bronze chariots and horse ornaments, and the numbers on the price tags are more eye-catching than the exhibit numbers. When I turned around, I caught a glimpse of the red slogan hanging from the dome of the hall, which was so new that it was dazzling.

The key to writing a review of a scenic spot is to highlight the characteristics and feelings, and to start from the perspectives of scenery, facilities, services, etc.: 1. This time I checked in at [scenic spot name] and it really amazed me! Stepping into the scenic spot, the beautiful scenery of mountains and rivers is picturesque, and the fresh air instantly washes away physical and mental fatigue. The walking path is well planned, with clear signs along the way, and there are thoughtful rest areas. The staff is warm and thoughtful, and the experience of playing is superb. I highly recommend it! 2. I came to [scenic spot name] because of its reputation, and I was somewhat disappointed. The scenery is monotonous, and there is nothing special except for a few ordinary buildings. There are few dining options in the scenic area, and the prices are high. The infrastructure is old, and some amusement facilities even have safety hazards. I hope it can be improved as soon as possible. 3. I must give a thumbs up to [scenic spot name]! It has a profound historical heritage, and the ancient ruins tell stories of the past. The scenic spot is explained in detail, and you can have a deep understanding of the culture behind it. The surrounding facilities are complete, the transportation is convenient, and there are many delicious foods around. Here, you can feel the history and enjoy the comfort of travel. It is worth the trip.
