Reviews: Hakone Owakudani and Lake Yamanaka Day Tour, Free Hakone Ropeway, Optional 9-Person Small Group Transfer

Winter days are short and the day gets dark early, so the itinerary was quite rushed. We arrived in Hakone in the morning and didn't get to visit the art museum. We rushed to Lake Yamanaka around 3 PM to take photos of Mount Fuji with its backlighting. The driver was a Chinese woman who had lived in Japan for over 20 years. She drove steadily and chatted with us the whole way, which was very nice. It was a small group of 9 people, but that day it was just our family of 4, which was great. 👍

This was truly an unforgettable day trip! The magnificent scenery was breathtaking, from the fun-filled pirate ship ride on Lake Ashi to the geothermal steam of Owakudani, every stop was perfectly timed and well-organized. The tour guide was friendly and helpful, providing rich and engaging explanations that allowed us to learn a great deal while enjoying the beautiful views. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Tokyo! 😍

Despite the unpleasant weather, I still managed to see Mount Fuji! 🗻 I think it was great value for money. It's impossible to see so many places in one day on your own. I think it was really worth it. I'd love to join a group tour to other places next time. The tour guide was also excellent, very attentive and detailed, and spoke both English and Chinese very well. I think the day trip was definitely worth it!

I chose the small group tour without a tour guide. The driver (Zhu Le) speaks English. He told us what to see at our destination and what time we should be back. As it was a small group, everyone was on time. The only drawback was the traffic on the way back to Tokyo - it took 3 hours whereas the morning drive to Mt Fuji was only 1.5 hours. We were able to enjoy all the places we visited. Bring cash - and lots of it! I would recommend this small group tour. In the future, I would use this again.

Upon arriving in Japan, I hastily decided to join a small tour group on Wednesday. I wanted to visit both an outlet mall and Mount Fuji, and after much deliberation, I chose this tour. The meeting point was the Washington Hotel, not far from my accommodation in Shinjuku. The driver was incredibly friendly and patiently explained the sights we encountered along the way. The outlet mall was huge; two hours might not have been enough. However, you can't have your cake and eat it too, so I couldn't skip Mount Fuji. The view of Mount Fuji from the outlet mall was absolutely perfect. In the afternoon, we also visited the Golden Torii Gate, Lake Yamanaka, and Lake Kawaguchi. We fed the geese, bought some limited-edition Mount Fuji items, and even visited a Lawson convenience store. The whole trip was surprisingly relaxing, making it especially suitable for families with elderly members.

Thanks to our guide, Ohashi, for taking such good care of us. Mount Fuji was truly beautiful, and we visited all five attractions – it was definitely worth it! However, the restroom queues were incredibly long, and not all attractions had restrooms. I didn't think Lawson's was a great spot for photos; it was backlit at midday, so it would have been better to remove it. Lake Yamanaka was a bit rushed; we only had half an hour, and the restroom queue alone took 15 minutes. Also, the meeting point was hard to find. The next parking lot was different from the one we boarded at. The Shinobu Hakkai was packed, leaving little time for photos after eating, not even time to buy souvenirs. And the restrooms were so hard to find! I had to ask another guide to lead me there, and I even got lost on the way back. It would have been better to meet at the food court; my friend said her previous tour didn't have the meeting point at the parking lot.
