Reviews: The 10 Tastings of Lima With Locals: Private Street Food Tour

This tour with Ivonne in Lima was next-level — the kind of food experience where you realize halfway through, yeah, I’m not getting this anywhere else. It was both organized and deeply local, with zero tourist traps. We tried all kinds of food, but the standouts were this special Andes cheese + bread combo (my girlfriend’s favorite — made from a specific cow only found in that region), and a uniquely Peruvian churro that blew me away. Sweet, crispy, and not your average Spanish-style version — this was something else entirely. Ivonne navigated my girlfriend’s many food allergies with total confidence — no banana, avocado, milk, etc. — and still found her great options. She also explained not just the dishes, but the why behind them: how the ingredients, preparation, and history tie into Lima’s identity. The tamale and Chinese dumpling were more standard compared to everything else, but everything else was such a sensory hit, especially the meat market with hanging cow parts and a real punch of smell — intense but real. It was a full three hours, never rushed, and it felt like we were eating our way through real Lima, not some curated tourist version. The vibe was more professional than casual — not a lot of personal small talk like we had on our Cusco tour, but that wasn’t a bad thing. If you’re looking for true variety, foods you can’t find anywhere else, and a knowledgeable local guide, this tour delivers. Highly recommend — especially for serious food lovers.

Booked this trip for my last day in Peru and I am so glad that I did that. Had an amazing day visiting Paracas & Huacachina. Went alone and came back with lots of friends. Aymeth our tourguide was very kind and patient. Thank you Aymeth. Highly recommended!

Do yourself a favor and sign up for this day trip out of Lima! This was one of the first things we did upon landing in Peru and my boyfriend and I, a couple in our early 40's, agreed that if our trip had ended right then and there we would have been happy. As it was we continued on for over two weeks with an Amazon River cruise, a hike to Rainbow Mountain and a 5 day trek to Machu Picchu, and at the end we still both decided that this excursion was the coolest part of our entire vacation. Yes, it is an early pickup, but the bus was comfortable, and the way they break up the trip down to Huacachina really made the early wake up easier to bear. The Paracas speedboat tour was a lot of fun. The only downside to this stop is that the coffee was horrible at the cafe where they stop for breakfast. As far as the tour its-self we saw all of the animals we expected, sea lions, penguins, and blue-footed boobies among other sea birds, and the rock formations were beautiful. The next stop at the winery was nice and the included lunch was delicious. Then on to the oasis! Huacachina was a beautiful gem in a desert the vastness of which I had no idea existed in South America. The dune buggy ride was exciting, like the wildest roller coaster I've ever been on, and with 3 roughly 10-15 minute rides throughout the experience it was well worth every dollar spent on the trip. The sand boarding, even though we were only laying on our bellies, was exhilarating, and we got to do 2 runs before jumping back in the buggy to chase the sunset - talk about incredible! The ride back was long, but we were exhausted and selpt for most of it, and they dropped us off when they said they would. A final note is for our guide, Aaron. He really did a stellar job of taking care of the entire crew which wasn't terribly large, but included children, a couple elderly guests and a mix of singles and small groups or couples. Also we spoke different languages and he easily switched from English to Spanish narration throughout, which I give him all the credit in the world for. This isn't the cheapest tour you will find to this incredible destination, but I will say they really made this long day the absolute best it could be!
