▲ The Jungfraujoch Sphinx Observatory is located in the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe mountain pass in Switzerland, at an altitude of 3,571 meters, making it one of the highest-altitude observatories in the world. Built in 1937, it is named after the rocky summit "Sphinx" where it stands. Owned and operated by Sphinx AG Jungfraujoch, the observatory houses a meteorological station, laboratories, workshops, a scientific analysis deck, and domes for meteorology and astronomy. It is primarily used for research in meteorology, glaciology, radiation, cosmic rays, astronomy, and physiology. Its viewing platform, the second-highest in Switzerland, is open to the public.
