Reviews: Melbourne Puffing Billy Steam Train + Penguin Island Day Tour [Visit two popular attractions in one day]

Since it was a small group, the driver picked us up at the hotel on time. The small crowds made the experience very good. The steam train burned coal, and the smoke was a bit dirty. I was covered in fine coal dust when I returned, so I tried not to open my mouth when facing the wind. The penguins were cute, and you could see them up close on the boardwalk. The starry sky was also beautiful. I had already seen the zoo in Brisbane, so I didn't go. I felt that an hour was a bit tight for the zoo. I would like to praise the driver and tour guide, Banban, for his steady driving and also for teaching us some sightseeing tips.

Highly recommend puffing billy and watching the penguins come home it was such a special experience. Riding the steam train really felt like stepping back in time thanks to our guide Shin for the great introduction and helpful info. Tip: try to sit on the left side of the train for the better views!

Wonderful full day with Darren providing great knowledge about history of the Dandenong regions. Fun being on the Puffin Billy railway and the Animal Sanctuary was awesome and second to none. Absolute value for money and would commend others to give it a go. Gavin

What a great day! Peter was a great tour guide who gave just the right amount of info, and was very clear about arrangements so we could really relax and enjoy the day. Puffing Billy was a great experience and the sanctuary was lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed the day. Only small negative was it’s a bit short on legroom on the bus- but didn’t impact on the day. Highly recommend this trip.

A well organised day to visit the wonderful Puffin Billy Railway . About an hour from Melbourne we had time for a comfort stop before departing . A trip of 1 hour was plenty to take us to Lakeside Station . There was a good cafe, shop & lakeside walk before we departed Our next stop was Healesville Sanctuary about 50 minutes away The sanctuary was set in a forest location and showcased a large number of Australia's indigenous creatures. Really would have appreciated more time there to get the full experience ! Michael our driver and guide was very good and kept us informed throughout the day on local sights & history Would thoroughly recommend this trip
