Etna and Alcantara Gorge excursion from Taormina and surroundings

This excursion to Mount Etna will give you unforgettable emotions, with an adventurous itinerary to discover Europe's highest volcano.

We will travel along the renowned Mareneve road, included by National Geographic among the 70 most spectacular routes in the world, and along the way to the north side of the volcano, our expert guide will share stories, legends and trivia about Etna's villages and Etna itself.

Before starting the hike, we will make a stop at the refuge at an altitude of 1,500 meters, where you can enjoy a coffee and get ready as best you can, with hiking shoes provided free of charge if needed.

The adventure begins by exploring the area affected by the massive eruption of October 27, 2002, which destroyed the Piano Provenzana ski facilities and much of the Ragabo Pine Forest. We will walk through nature trails surrounded by pines, birch trees and lava flows until we reach the side craters, where breathtaking views will leave you speechless.

The Etna experience concludes with a visit to the Grotta dei Ladroni, a fascinating lava flow tunnel. Equipped with helmets and flashlights, we will enter the heart of this natural formation to discover its history and mysterious charm.

After the hike, we will stop for lunch at Chalet Clan dei Ragazzi, where you can choose between a €10 menu, which includes a sandwich, drink and dessert, or a €15 menu with bruschetta, main course, drink and coffee.

In the afternoon, the adventure continues to the Alcantara Gorges, passing through characteristic Sicilian villages such as Castiglione di Sicilia, known for its vineyards and fine Etna DOC wine.

Arriving at the Gorges, we will explore the fascinating basalt walls shaped over the centuries by the erosion of the Alcantara River, a unique place where nature expresses itself in all its beauty.
