Discover two UNESCO World Heritage sites on an unforgettable journey to the heart of Southern Italy: Matera and Alberobello.
The tour kicks off in Matera, one of Italy's most spectacular cities. It's incredible to think that less than 70 years ago, about 15,000 people, mostly peasants, still lived in caves without natural light, ventilation, running water, or electricity. Today, Matera isn't just a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was also the European Capital of Culture in 2019.
Explore the ancient Sassi districts, an intricate system of limestone cave dwellings overlooking a deep ravine. Strolling through alleys and stone staircases, you'll see artisan shops, cafés, and ice cream parlors nestled among the ancient tuff walls.
The journey then continues to Alberobello, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The city is an extraordinary example of construction using prehistoric techniques that have survived intact and are still functioning in the modern world.
A trullo is a small limestone house, built with dry stone walls and topped with a characteristic conical roof. The dazzling light reflected by the white walls of the trulli, the intertwining streets and the souvenir shops, B&Bs, bars and restaurants that animate the village create a unique and fairytale atmosphere, making Alberobello a truly special place in the world.
During the trip, a guide will tell you interesting facts and details about Apulian culture and traditions, in Italian or English. They'll guide you to the city center and give you all the tips you need to start your tour independently.
We'll be back in Bari at 6:30/7:00 p.m., barring any unforeseen circumstances.
