Itinerary
If you're longing for a leisurely-paced journey., this one-day Kyushu tour—combining volcanoes, grasslands and a hot spring town—is exactly what you've been looking for.
First Stop:Kamishiromi Kumanoza shrine deep in the mountains, this shrine is a real-life anime setting, having served as a filming location for Natsume's Book of Friends and Hotarubi no Mori e. Towering cedar trees line the path, and 100+ stone lanterns stand alongside 260 moss-covered stone steps. Morning light filters through the leaves, and the air is filled with the fresh scent of foliage—quiet and magical. Take your time climbing the steps, and stop to make a wish by the "Yukishiwa Iwa" (Pierced Rock) to start your day in peace.
Next Stop: Mount AsoJapan's most famous active volcano cluster never fails to impress. Its vast landscape blends bare volcanic rock with lush greenery, creating a breathtakingly dramatic scene. Stand on the observation deck, overlook the crater, and feel the raw, primal energy of the earth beneath you. A faint sulfuric scent lingers in the air—we recommend bringing a mask if you're sensitive to strong smells.Note: Crater access is subject to the official Mount Aso website announcement on the day. If closed, we will extend your stay at Kusasenri Grassland.
Complimentary Benefit: Round-trip shuttle bus service to Mount Aso is included in the tour fee. No cash refund will be provided if the shuttle service is unavailable due to objective reasons.
Then: Kusasenri GrasslandNestled at the foot of Mount Karakuni, this grassland features a tranquil volcanic lake that perfectly reflects the surrounding peaks. Wander along the trails at your leisure, and enjoy the stunning view of blue sky, green pastures and distant mountains. Best of all, you'll get a free taste of kuro-tamago—local hot spring eggs steamed by volcanic gas. With their black shells and silky texture, these eggs are a delicious gift from the land of Kyushu.
Final Stop: Kurokawa Onsen TownAs dusk falls, we head to Kurokawa Onsen, one of Japan's top hot spring spots focused purely on onsen experiences. Traditional wooden buildings glow warmly at twilight, with hot spring steam blending into mountain mist—peaceful and cozy for unwinding.
Note: Tattoos must be covered with skin-toned stickers for onsen access.
