Discover the natural beauty of Kisoro on a guided hike and coffee tour. Admire panoramic views of Lake Mutanda, the Virunga Mountains, and the rolling Kisoro hills. Learn about the coffee-making process from bean to cup.
Start your day with a scenic hike up one of Kisoro's rolling hills. Admire breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. As you ascend, notice the lush green terrain, dotted with small villages and farms. The trail winds through local communities, allowing you to observe everyday rural life and interact with friendly locals.
One of the highlights of this hike is the incredible panoramic views that emerge as you climb higher. The most striking sight is Lake Mutanda, one of Uganda's most famous lakes, known for its scattered islands and serene blue waters. The view from the hilltop provides a picture-perfect perspective of this natural wonder.
Beyond the lake, the Virunga Mountains rise dramatically in the distance. These volcanoes—Mt. Muhabura, Mt. Gahinga, and Mt. Sabyinyo—form the border between Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. On clear days, you can even catch a glimpse of the misty Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to Uganda's famous mountain gorillas.
After your hike, visit a local coffee farm. Learn about how coffee plants are cultivated. Depending on the season, you may get the chance to pick coffee cherries yourself. The farmers will teach you how to identify ripe cherries, which turn a deep red when ready for harvesting.
Once harvested, the cherries go through a processing stage to extract the coffee beans. Watch the beans being sorted, washed, dried, hulled, roasted, and ground. Finally, enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
