Highlights

Discover the life and legacy of Daniel O'Connell, ‘The Liberator'
Enjoy stunning views of the surroundings from the top floor turret
Explore the building's history and its role in the Fenian Rising
Itinerary
Start your journey by discovering what life was like in the barracks as a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC). On the first floor, watch a short animated film about why this unusual barracks building was built here and learn about the technology behind telegraphs, the text messages of their time.

Next, learn about the Fenian Rising of 1867, which began in Cahersiveen. Meet the heroes (and heroines) of the rising and take the photo-fit test to see if you can identify the Fenian fugitives. On the top floor, enjoy wonderful views of the surroundings, learn about the defensive features of the building, and experience the views from the turret.

Meet the architect of the barracks, Enoch Trevor Owen, and learn about the architectural style of the building. Finally, in a room dedicated to Daniel O'Connell, who was born in Cahersiveen, learn about the life, work, and legacy of the man known as ‘The Liberator' for his role in ending discrimination against Catholics.
