Meet your guide in the morning and board a comfortable minibus for a scenic two-hour drive to Plovdiv, Bulgaria's second-largest city and the European Capital of Culture in 2019.
Tour duration: 11 hours
Upon arrival, a two-hour walking tour of this ancient city awaits. Led by your guide (or your audioguide), you'll step back in time through the Old Town's cobblestone streets. Discover the impressive Roman Theatre, where gladiator games once took place, and marvel at the Ancient Stadium, which once seated 30,000 spectators. Your journey continues with breathtaking panoramic views from the Nebet Tepe fortress and visits to the most remarkable (and Instagrammable) 19th-century Revival Period houses. You will also have about an hour and a half of free time to have lunch or further explore the Old Town and the artistic Kapana district.
From Plovdiv, your journey continues with an enjoyable 1.5-hour drive to the charming town of Koprivshtitsa. Nestled in the Sredna Gora Mountains, this picturesque town is a living museum of the Bulgarian National Revival period. A one-hour guided (or audioguided) walking tour will lead you through its winding streets to visit beautifully preserved 19th-century houses. Afterward, you'll have free time to immerse yourself in the tranquility of the town and sample a local delicacy.
The tour is concluded in the center of Sofia after a 2-hour drive from Koprivshtitsa.
