Join the original guiding company on the Matanuska Glacier, founded over 35 years ago! See the wonder and marvel at one of Alaska's most accessible glaciers by foot with NOVA's popular Matanuska Glacier Adventure Trek.
This half day adventure is one of the longest, most intense days we offer on the glacier and requires a certain level of physical capabilities. To make the most of this experience each participant must be able to hike at least 6+ miles and be comfortable navigating challenging, uneven terrain & steep inclines. This adventure takes hikers out beyond the main terminus ‘Ice Falls' area to the heart of the Matanuska Glacier and beyond the more frequented areas. Traveling back though the frozen ancient world of ice, exploring out where the more unique features are located and harder to access. The Adventure Trek is highly tailored with top of the line gear and a guide to client ratio of 1:4. Customized by our professional guides to the group's physical abilities and desires.
The Matanuska Glacier is a massive 26-mile-long advancing valley glacier, located in the rugged Chugach Mountains, just 100 miles north of Anchorage. Constantly shifting, the glacier transforms throughout the summer, with active geology reshaping its features. Each day brings something new, making every tour a unique experience.
Prepare for Alaskan conditions! We recommend bringing a personal backpack to store raincoats, extra layers, snacks, cameras, sunglasses, sunscreen, hats, gloves, and water bottles to drink glacier water or carry anything else you'd like on the trek.
